These are great. Thanks, Kelly O!
2
It took anarchists to make the chronic inebriates look like the normal people in the room.
3
Drunks + anarchists + James Bible = Slog's dream city council?
4
Well done, Kelly O!
5
Is that woman in the third shot covering her mouth from the stench of urine, booze, feces and cigarettes, otherwise known as "l'eau de Jardin Steinbruek"?
6
Thank you, 1 and 4 - just updated with a few more - including Rick Williams politely asking the anarchists to "please leave" and "stop chanting".... which the anarchists did, not before throwing a bunch of xerox flyers all over the place, then telling me "The Stranger was stupid" and calling me a "fucking bitch"
7
Maybe the anarchists came to make the drunks look reasonable?
8
Kelly, these photos are fantastic. Thank you.
9
nice photos

Great additions, Kelly, and your anecdote about the last ones makes me ask - is there any chance you could do a slideshow, with captions? The one you made from the Gathering was such great photojournalism, and I think your perspective would help cover this story. Please?
11
Anarchists. Wish they'd all just go ahead and become inebriates. Goddam litter bugs.
12
Agree with @10. Kelly, this is great work, gorgeous compelling and I want captions to go with 'em all.
13
wow. these comments sure do this event as much justice as this pathetic piece of "photojournalism."
a piece is written about the stranger's ineptitude regarding reporting on the spd and distributed during the event, and then to respond to an important moment in the time line of ongoing discussions and anger regarding "police accountability", they post photos that do very little storytelling and with absolutely no analysis. way to get away with the least amount of work possible to maintain that good old street cred while sitting on a shanty fence.
14
shanty fence?
15
it is perhaps a poor choice of words to suggest unstable fence-sitting. the stranger has been completely uncritical of recent acts of violence committed by the spd and was borderline apologist on their behalf until john t. williams death, despite the fact that this was maybe the most heinous example in recent history but not the first, as well as the leaks about editorial pieces in 'the guardian.'

@6

Coming from those idiots, it was a compliment. If they don't want government, tell 'em to join the TeaBaggers.
17
Great photos. Thanks!

no
she's using the sweater to conceal the muffin she's enhaling.
(it's her 5th muffin so far....)
19
@10 - I just might do this....
20
Fingers and toes all crossed now...!
21
chronic inebriates? isn't that what the pigs and the media called John T. Williams? Cool, why not just call him a drunk Indian? Why not be happy as a clam that the police who murdered him deigned to speak to the good citizens? Man...I guess anger sucks. Let's all be peaceful man. no more chronic inebriates, just passive zombie spectators.
22
Nice photos? Sure, if you like underexposed, flat, unsharp images noT properly color balanced. That's saying nothing about how poorly framed and composed they are. Is Kelly a professional?

Check out the PI's photos, not this amateurism.
23
Awesome work, Kelly. The 10th one up from the bottom, the one where (I think it's) the brother of Mr Williams is facing right across the table from Chief Diaz - that one actually made me tear up. Really powerful.

A slide show would be fantastic.

And confidential to the trolls: If The Stranger is so sub-par in every possible way, then why don't y'all go on along the Information Superhighway and find someplace more suited to your expectations? Is it really THAT MUCH FUN to spend so much time and effort flinging your anonymous monkey poo all over the place?
24
Kelly O rocks!
25
I notice there were at least a couple of cops of color there, including one woman.

There was a cop who participated in the candlelight vigil for John T. Williams a couple of days after he was killed. There was a picture of her in uniform on Slog. I'd like to know if she ever got shit from her colleagues for showing up there.
26
Great photos, Kelly... And while the P-I's photo set captured the "newsiness" of the event, there's something about your photos here that capture the tense emotions in the room in a much better way.
27
What is with the little anarchist twats covering their faces? If they're so proud to be anarchists, show yer damn faces...or will mommy and daddy stop paying for your liberal arts schooling?
28
Great work, some really human moments.
I'd like to see the slideshow, and comments, too. Please?
29
I was there, and no one said "the stranger was stupid" or called you a "fucking bitch." What was actually said was "Fuck the Stranger," and you got called a "junior journalist."
30
@15, you must not read the Stranger much because they are the proverbial pit bull when it comes to any police misconduct.
31
The 'young anarchists' (and the Oct. 22 Coalition) have been repeatedly asked not to use John's image. They continue. They've been asked not to get out of control, to be respectful. They refuse. They are the ones who show up to all these gatherings and take it, as the Stranger once said, 'to crazy town'. They're the ones who blocked traffic a few weeks back. They do more damage to the issue at hand than they help it, and you can't get it through their young, thick, stupid skulls. Throwing their flyers all over? Tacky and childish. They may one day grow up, if they live that long.

Please wait...
