Originally it used to be coffeehouses that were an indicator of civilization, because public libraries were plentiful and open all the time.

Technically, though, the bank isn't redundant - the space Chase is in now will be a big giant empty hole by 2012, so they have to move.

@1 I believe he means redundant in the sense that there are 2 chase branches ~1 mile in either westerly or easterly directions from that one.

Unlike a bookstore, my Barnes & Noble "Nook" will NEVER become obsolete!

Worth pointing out that the space TST will be vacating was previously a jewelry store not so many years ago. It's like ecological succession or something: one day there'll be a nice meadow there.
