I visited the Henry to see the Robot-Art-Arm thingy a few months ago. It was both very cool, and very frustrating. Big props to SBC for developing it- I wish I was smart enough with wires and gadgets and things to make something like that. And the octo-eyeball-light thingy that allowed the camera to resolve the art is cute and functional and sort of precious.

But operating the thingy is frustrating and doesn't adequately engage. It is slow to respond to the joystick, the images on the screen are grainy and jittery, and it almost seems to have a mind of its own. An aloof cat-mind, one that both wants to be ignored and also wants some slight attention.

I guess I expected it to be a little slicker, a little smoother, and, well, more fun to operate.

Please wait...
