At least that was before TV and radio, and village idiot probably wouldn't pay enough to afford Beck voting rights. I'd be content to let him pretend it was 1791.
2
No, it died in the Safeway parking lot in Arizona last month

I would love to see interviews with the Nielsen Families that turned off Fox.

Fox News has always been a propaganda network. It's obvious that as an institution, it's never been interested in anything besides pushing an agenda. What changed in the eyes of the viewers?

Is there a point where the human mind cannot tolerate any more cognitive dissonance without rebelling?

Do they blame Fox for the massacre in Arizona?

Have too many senior citizens died in the last year?

It's the same thing that happened to the culture wars. People suddenly realized what an idiot idea it all is.

Well, you can only predict the end of the world for so long before people wonder why it hasn't happened. They spoke of massive tax increases and our taxes have not gone up. They spoke of communism yet the government is selling GM back to the public. They spoke of trillion dollar losses in the bailout, and we've come close to breaking even. They spoke of impending massive terror attacks and we've long since put the plastic and duct tape away. They said the new regime would come get all our guns, but nothing happened. They spoke of death panels which never happened. They said a government agent would get between me and my doctor, and... nothing happened. They spoke of a total economic collapse and all we got was stagnation... for better or for worse, nothing happened. Hyperinflation? Nope. Muslim takeover of America? No. The list goes on, and on, and on. Nothing, but NOTHING, has happened. We are pretty much exactly in the same screwed up situation we were in back on inauguration day, nothing has improved and nothing has gotten worse. I think it goes to show that all the stuff these pundits have been telling us to fear... has turned out to be a load of baloney.

Just how many times can you cry wolf before people stop believing it? I think we have the answer.

Can we start behaving rationally now?

Maybe the audience decided that there were sexier and loonier talking heads to watch.

Ugh. I was about to go to bed early and was taking a last peruse of Slog when I saw the picture of GB. Now I'm going to have to go find some funny cat videos on YouTube to watch before I go to sleep, otherwise I'll have nightmares with Glenn Beck's face in them.
BTW - Glenn likes subservient women. That's why he married into Mormonism, so he could be the big boss at home. He'd love it if they couldn't vote.

1791. Good idea Glenn.

1791, when people bathed annually. When smallpox killed 1 out of 5 children. When blacks were only 3/5 of a human, women were subservient chattel, and Indians were an impediment to westward expansion. When there was no electricity. When there was no insulation in houses, no plumbing, no toilets. When only white, male, landowners could vote. When roads were made of dirt. When basic literacy was a luxury, and only if you were white. When an infection from a minor wound could kill you… ah, the good old days.

Most of those pundits don't have the populist leanings that are inherent to the Tea Party.

You on the left don't understand the Tea Party any more than those on the right.

That's why you'll be constantly amazed at what comes next.
10
The Tea Party......well, I think that that brain trust will be out maneuvered by folks who know the planet is over 4,000 years old, personally. But Beck.....it never ceases to amaze me how Beck can make constant, and inappropriate, Nazi comparisons, and yet never ever get called on it. Folks on the right complain, or at least used to complain, about how there were posters at liberal and Progressive events that portrayed Bush as Hitler....

Well.....you've got a person on the TV that does it over and over again the other way around, all the time, and yet humanity doesn't seem to be outraged over it.
11
its strange that Beck wanted to take us back in time to re-celebrate my 20th birthday. I remember it being pretty uneventful, thanks to the previous days' actions. maybe he's gonna throw me the kick ass party I never got.

...holy shit I'm turning 30 in six months!

#10

The point is that you and Beck are having these rarified metaphoric fights that have nothing to do with the streets.
13
That would certainly surprise a lot of people, since for example:

- only white male property-owners over 21 could vote
- Senators would be elected by the state legislatures
- The runner-up in the Presidential election (by the Electors) would become Vice-President
- Beck presumably would not be able to see his favorite Broadway show, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark
14
Glenn Beck is no longer relevant.

The unregistered comment @ 5 nailed it.

The repubs and teabaggers have been crying wolf for years now. Nothing happened. They've lost their credibility (if they ever had any).
16
"They are going to take our guns away!" Not one mention of any bills that would do so.

"They will raise taxes!" Not one budget has included additional taxes. Yes, there was discussion about not extending previous tax cuts, but even those ended up being extended.

"The US is becoming socialist!" Anyone that actually understands the definition of the term knows we are nowhere even close to being a socialist or communist country.

"The financial market will collapse! oh and buy gold! Here is a company from which you can purchase bullion."

Even people with limited depth of intelligence will eventually catch on that there is little substance to what is being repeatedly said.
17
@9- The GOP splits over a third party presidential candidate, Obama serves another term on top of a divided legislature and the USA continues it's creep to third-world status? I won't be surprised.

Please wait...
