I've called the White House comment line three times in the two weeks demanding that the US support the demands of the protesters. We should not give any more money to Egypt, if it is ruled by Mubarak, Suleiman and/ or a military dictatorship.

Eli, you ignorant slut. When Obama backs you, why give up?

The first poster makes a great point. Why in the fuck is the US government giving money and military equipment to dictators?

And here's another important question: what fucking idiot thinks that a President who supports a dictator who tortures people and who gives that dictator money and weapons seriously gives a shit about equal rights for queers?

Here that queers? Middle Eastern dictators get more respect from Obama than you. All you get is the right to go kill brown people in the desert.

If, in November 2012, Mubarak or his stooges or a military dictatorship are in power in Egypt and the US is STILL giving money and weapons to the Egyptian regime, I will not be voting for Obama for re-election.

I am normally not a single issue voter and I have always voted for Democrats for the Executive Branch, but this is something that is too important to me.

I'll vote for Cantwell and Inslee, but I will be done with Obama.

This will get ugly now.

He's full of crap. Egypt has been utterly and completely stagnated in every way -- politically, socially and economically -- for fifty years, under Sadat and Mubarak. The only thing he's done is cash the checks that the US has written to Egypt, $2bn per year, in exchange for not attacking Israel (but in no other way behaving as if Israel exists). It's a crap bargain for us and for the Egyptian people.

Father of Egypt my fat ass. Parasite on Egypt, more like. Once upon a time Egypt was a glittering light in the Arab firmament. Now they're basically Mali with an elite class.

He's probably thinking the same thing the Governator and City Council are thinking of the opposition to the Deeply Borrowed Tunnel, that if he/they wait them out, the opposition will go away.

But they're both wrong.
7
@6 What does the ex-Governor of California have to do with the tunnel?
8
Each state has the ability to have an out-of-touch Governator.

Yesh. I sincerely hope that tonight and tomorrow and the following days don't become a massacre.

he sounds like a narcissist in his 80s. his atrophied, senile ego won't let him depart.

But Twitter told everyone Mubarak was stepping down, just like Twitter fixed everything in Tunisia and Iran...

@Eli, So Egypt has an abusive father. Should we send them to counseling or get a restraining order?

@2, We send piles of money to dictators, many different dictators around the world not just Egypt, because sometimes the dictator is better than the alternative. We've been doing it for decades, and it has virtually nothing to do with Obama. In Egypt's case we've been giving them billions of dollars a year essentially as a payoff to keep them from attacking Israel and because "we" felt it was better to support a relatively benign dictator (in comparison to many others in the region) than let the country collapse into anarchy or to let the Muslim Brotherhood take power. Not saying it's right, just explaining why.

Please wait...
