You know, that really nice statue next to the Monorail they just unveiled for a Founding Father of our City who stood up for persecuted Chinese might be a great photo op to protest on.
Oh for fuck sake you bitchers shut the fuck up lf the city attorny says they need to follow procedures so he can't sue then we need to follow the rules it's obvious they want to fire him but need to make sure it's not f'ed up or do you all wanna pay him a fat settlement 3 years down the road? I know were all upset I am too but for fuck sake take a chill pill.
"The laws that govern this issue place greater value on the officer's due process rights, and rights in his job, than the public's expectation that improper use of force will be swiftly and appropriately dealt with."
Improper use of force? He murdered a man in cold blood and the most he might face is firing! This whole thing is insane.
The mayor should direct the prosecutor to charge him with a crime, winnable or not. A show trial with a losing outcome will show the legislature that the laws protecting this cop need to be changed. Even if the city loses the trial itself can be quite a punishment for the cop too.
But everything else the mayor said is true - it's best to layout the official process and procedures so the murdering cop can't sue to get his job back.
In the meantime, people should continue to stay pissed off and in the streets demanding justice. Just because nothing can be done officially doesn't mean pissed off people shouldn't be expressing themselves - as is their right.
@6 kind of hard to follow procedures when the cops sneak up on old guys and shoot them dead after not clearly identifying themselves, especially when you're partially deaf and nobody else paid attention to the cop ...
@3: I can. I've lived in Seattle long enough (20 years) to know that the police have a license to kill in this town. Given a free pass by the King Kounty Prosecutor's office and defended by their union, they have carte blanche to kill and brutalize a citizenry that they consider the enemy.
@4: No. I've been a Democratic voter long enough to have moved beyond heartbreak and disappointment to total and utter cynicism.
Just sayin ...
He might get fired? That's it.
this is wrong in so many ways.

Fuck them.
