What! I am baffled that this was not a priority for the Mayor when Olson's term ended, during a time when SPD actions continued to grab headlines and outrage the city.
A "deliberative decision-making style?" More like all hat and no cattle.
The Mayor is too busy trying to block the tunnel, he seriously has no time to deal with the social problems that plauge the city. Come on, give him a break! He promises to get off his spandex laden ass and do something the next time a citizen is murdered. /s
McGinn can't catch a break from you people, can he? You actually expect him to make every decision that falls within the Mayor's powers. How the fuck is he supposed to work on all of his projects that are outside of the Mayor's scope, like revamping the schools and the state route 99 project, if he spends all his time on Mayor stuff? How? Answer me that.
@10 You summed up my thoughts on McGinn perfectly! He lacks the most basic understanding of what the roll of the mayor even is. Instead of finding solutions, he seeks out problems. Instead of bringing people together, he looks to divide. Instead of progressive forward thinking, he looks to obstruct. He is so woefully incompetent and unqualified to be mayor. If McGinn wanted to help out Seattle he would let his own job "lapse" and tender his resignation. At least Officer Birk was sensible enough to do that.
Oh, McGinn is frustrated about it all but, not so much to really do any thinking about it or take any action. He is just too busy being Governor and stuff. Certainly, new bike lanes will solve all problems.

You can feel the anger bubbling beneath the surface citywide - at some point it will explode.
Probably when another civilian is executed for walking or biking or driving while non-white.
Way too little, way too late.
