That unction is extreme.

There is no clearer case of the lunatics running the asylum than the Catholic church being able to beatify its own fucking priests. Sheesh. Talk about self-congratulatory.
3
Who else is gonna do it?
4
That's not weird; that's just venerating death and the symbols of death. That's NORMAL. It's us who are weird; out of sight, out of mind.
5
I bet Jim Morrison could get a bigger crowd.
6
If they bring him up from the ground and he sees his shadow do we get six more weeks of winter?
7
You mean you didn't know that you can watch his tomb on Vatican webcam?
8
I don't imagine that the Holy Father would have approved of this gesture.
9
That is fucking creepy.
10
Having been raised and educated as Catholic I would take offense at that statement, but I really can't.
11
What would his corpse have to do with anything? Soul leaves body, body becomes dead meat, right? Catholics are so un-Christian sometimes it freaks my nontheist self out.
12
@7, I did not know that.
13
Don't they have to see if his body has remained uncorrupted since death? Or is that no longer a requirement to be considered for sainthood? I know JPII himself had low standards: he beatified and saintified just about anybody.
14
One of the candidates for sainthood used to play bridge with my parents, and was the brother of my Great Aunt. When it comes time to sell Mom's house, I'm going to find a hardcore Catholic realtor, and publicize the fact that a hopefully-by-then saint used to hang out there. That can probably bring us an extra 20k.
15
That's just nasty.
16
@2 Grasping at straws. Dead, desicated, hideous straws. Even as more priests are being exposed for rape of a child, they look for ways to pump up their sucker followers.
17
Actually, it's nothing new. There's a convent in Missouri that has the skeleton of a saint or something displayed on the altar. It's done tastefully for that sort of thing, but it's still a skeleton.

Actually, the combination of the macabre and show biz is one of the few things I like about the church.

@6 - ha!

also, i would totally play a zombie pope video game.

Please wait...
