I plan to be more vocal. letters to both her an Cantwell on a regular basis.

I see the IRS is letting domestic partners file jointly in a few states. Not enough yet, but still...

How liberal Democrats could have voted for DOMA is beyond me...I know it's ridiculous to say it, but I SO wish the States had followed the British model the way Canada did, it's great to have parties that are far to the left of the Liberals (Democrats) keeping everyone on their toes....

DOMA won't be overturned by a Republican house majority.

Is DOMA really the big thing you want to hear her address? I totally support marriage equality but I’m guessing that with a Rep House sending endless nightmare scenario to the Senate there might be other things on her mind.

That said, after years of walking for my gay friends in marches for their rights I hope everyone turns out on Saturdays “walk for choice” on Cap Hill to support women, families and groups like Planned Parenthood

I didn't read the post but the answer to the headline is "No".

Hope Sen. Murray brings the same passion she brought to the DADT debate to the issue of marriage equality! You voted for DOMA, Patty...now, let's repeal it!

1. The GSBA will be giving an award to Major Margaret Witt, and will also feature Col. Cammermeyer. With the recent repeal of DADT, I'm guessing Murray will mostly be talking about gays in the military. None of the other awards given out that night will have anything to do with DOMA, so my guess is she will skip the topic entirely. With republicans holding a majority in the House, DOMA has zero chance of being repealed anytime soon, so why raise a fuss about it now?

2. Canuk @3, a little DOMA history: At the time, there was a very real possibility that there would be a push for an amendment to the federal constitution, making gay marriage illegal nationwide, regardless of what any individual state passed. Many liberals voted in favor of DOMA in a strategic attempt to head off the constitutional amendment, with the secret hope of dumping DOMA later. As a practical matter, the strategy worked. The constitutional amendment talk evaporated, and DOMA is much easier to overturn than a constitutional amendment.

Murray is a great senator in so many ways-- this has been the real blip. She was really good during DADT and I think now is a perfect time to come full circle and to be a leading voice for marriage equality. She has a real opportunity to make amends for that vote 15 years ago.

Thank you, Reverse Polarity! I seem to have sleepwalked through some major events in US politics when the kids were little up here in Canada, so it helps to have the recap...because I honestly couldn't figure that one out, and what you've described makes sense, as sad as it is. Gracias.

The liberal constituents in King County and Western Washington handed Patty Murray her most recent electoral win providing her with a 6-year term and increased seniority. It is her responsibility, not only morally but based on fairness that she recognize the issues that are important to her electorate. I believe that, at this point, we are not asking for much. We recognize the current environment in DC especially with the Republican Congress but this does not mean she cannot right her past wrongs. The GSBA event would be a perfect time for Senator Murray to thank the people who voted for her by at LEAST renouncing her vote for DOMA (even if she believes it was the right vote at that time) and embracing marriage equality. We are listening and deserve this!!!

Please wait...
