Yes, but we have the Sounders!! And single game tickets go on sale today.
2
Regarding the "was this already on Slog?" bit: I feel that - most times, attempts to use this site's search engine to find older articles for research/general interest come to nothing; it's simply not indexed well enough to be useful. Are there any plans to improve it?
3
March 1 Slog posters deciding "disingenuous" is yet again just the right word: one as of 8:47.

Stay tuned for updates on this tally.

The Sounders have sold out every home game they have ever played. Their inaugural season is generally regarded as the most successful kickoff of a sport franchise ever. The Sounders aren't just the model for MLS teams- they are a model for ALL sports teams.

So yeah... Forbes needs to get a clue. And you, Dominic, should attend a Sounders match so that you can realize how much you are missing.
5
@4) So when are we going? I'll bring the flask.
6
Turning right from the center lane is one of the tamest crazy Seattle driver things I've seen. Now, for more daring Seattlites, turning left from the right lane is far more acceptable.
7
Maria, not Marie.
9
@6 - I'm pretty familiar with taking this turn from the second lane. It works well when traffic is blocked up a block or more trying to get onto the viaduct. Either put up a sign that says, "no right turn from this lane" or I'll keep on doing in and feign ignorance.

doing... IT .....

The Sounders have won two US Open Cups in two tries, and made the playoffs in both of their first two seasons. They routinely outdraw the Mariners 2-to-1, and have by many thousands the largest attendance in MLS. They even outdraw most of the teams in the top European leagues -- including Sevilla, Juventus, Roma, PSG, Lyon, Bayer Leverkusen, Everton, and even my heroes Tottenham Hotspur. They outdraw every NBA and NHL team, and 2/3 of the teams in MLB.

MLS may not be a Top Four sport everywhere but it sure as hell is in Seattle.
12
The article is also WRONG.

But through a cumulative 111 seasons and 37 playoff appearances, Seattle boasts only one champion: the 1979 Sonics of Gus Williams, Jack Sikma and Dennis Johnson.

Sounders are two-time defending US Open champions. It counts as a championship, because it IS a championship: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamar_Hunt_…

For those that don't understand, Soccer is like boxing: you are a full champion by winning a variety of ways. Remember how Tyson was "undisputed heavyweight champ"? That's because he had ALL the available world titles at once to defend. In soccer, rather than belts, they're cups. We have:

US Open Cup (Domestic cup, ALL United States leagues can in theory win it)

MLS Cup (Domestic league cup--like the World Series or Superbowl)

CONCACAF Cup (North America/Central America/Caribbean--you win things like MLS Cup/US Open Cup from your nation to qualify). Winner every two years.

World Club Cup (International championship, you need to win or 2nd in regionals like CONCACAF to get there). Winner every two years.

Only a handful of teams ever won a treble: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treble_%28a…

Even less quadruples or better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Quadrup…

Do the Seahawks or the Mariners have the chance to win FOUR championships in ONE season? I didn't think so. SOUNDERS OLE, etc.
13
Most miserable sports cities? Try Anchorage. No football, basketball, soccer, baseball... but wait! They do have a second rate Hockey team, so... yay?
14
@fnarf Sounders last year were actually on the international scale IIRC #35 or #36 on the ENTIRE PLANET in soccer attendance. Sounders also by themselves match the entire average league attendance of the English Premiership:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_spo…

Which is the most popular and lucrative sports league in the entire world.
15
@9 I don't think you have to feign it...
16
TheMisanthrope - You Mad?
17
@9 Anchorage hardly qualifies as a city.
18
What @11 said.

Still, sign the Kill The Tunnel petitions. Get your neighbors to sign em.

And take them in or mail them now.
19
And clearly by @9 I meant @13.
20
Yeah, but they do have curling. Have to give them that, care bear.
21
and we have ONE TEAM that has won the championship of their league TWICE. they're called the seattle storm. oh but girls can't really play sports that well, can they? fuhgeddaboutit.
22
Stranger Staff,
Is anyone else outraged at Galliano's remarks? Dan? Paul? Natalie Portman has completely cut off ties with him. Evidently, he has done this before. Thankfully, the House of Dior fired him. Blood disgraceful behavior.
23
Joe: Your Sounders passion is admirable, but come on, the U.S. Open Cup? Nobody gives a shit.
24
4 potential championships in a year. GASP! This is why nobody gives a shit. None of them have any value.

Yes women can play sports well. Sorry that nobody cares.

Please wait...
