Your compromise sounds quite rational. If it's not acceptable to the ethnics' minders, however, the next-best course would be to do all your Facebooking, Tweating, Homepage, etc. on your private accounts paid for by "office" funds or outright political campaign funds.

Constituents and other citizens can find you plenty easily via Google, especially if you make yourself easy to find, and interconnect all your Private accounts.

There have been county workers who, while running for election, got dinged for syncing their cell phone calendar on county owned computers.

It's a seriously overzealous policy.
