funny, just today i received my ebay delivery of the smurfs board game i remember so fondly from my childhood. did you play this? i don't remember anything about it except that it was awesome. i decided my kid needed one.

i will not watch anything that will tarnish the smurfs! not even the trailer. and katy perry is all you needed to say to scare me off.

I didn't notice it at the time when I was a kid watching the Smurfs cartoons in the early 80's but in retrospect I've realised how sexist that cartoon was, and I'm sad they haven't pulled it from the telly. Smurfette is for women, what golliwogs were for African Americans.

A community of small blue creatures who are 95% male, each with a unique character assigned to them, and the one female is the only one who doesn't have a personality assigned to her, because her only 'character' is to be feminine and flirty with the guys. She doesn't have a character outside of meeting her gender stereotype roles.

And no better person to do her voice than the disgracefully apolitical Katy Perry.
