There are actually a few self-published authors who are sane. Some of them are even friends of mine. But, as with people who decide to be their own lawyer, the overwhelming majority are complete and total idiots.
The fact that her responses reveal her to be downright illiterate is the best part. If you stumble across her blog, you'll find a book review where 9 out of 10 sentences contain egregious spelling, grammar or punctuation errors, and the other 10 percent are merely bad.
Also, I'm disappointed that the title on this slog entry was not "Review of Greek Seaman leaves bad taste in author's mouth."
"He reviewed an uncorrected proof and ignored the corrected copy I sent him." = Pretty much the only thing an author could possible say about a bad review and not just seem like a complete douche. An artist complaining about bad reviews always loses. Just be glad someone read your fucking book.
"Maybe its just my style and being English is what you don't get. Sorry it wasn't your cup of tea, but I think I will stick to my five star and four star reviews thanks."
#7, you would weep at the correspondence between F. Scott Fitzgerald (early 20th c. American writer) and his editor at Scribner's, Maxwell Perkins. Hard to believe someone educated at Princeton could be an atrocious speller.
Lady's a douche, but I agree with TVDinner. Indie is by definition 'independent', especially of major producers - she independently published her own book.
@6. The reviewer said that he had read the corrected version and in fact that was the version he reviewed:
"I received the email on 2/7 asking that I download the a new copy of the book, which I did. I verified in my library software (Calibre) that this was the version I had and read." (from BigAl's website).
This is like watching a professional in some field - say, a car mechanic, respond to a negative review of their prior work by frothing at their customers for being "so stuped about eng'ns n'stuff.". Jacqueline should stop being so "fuckng discusting" and fuck off like the talent-free attention whore she is.
@14: There are indie publishing houses that publish quirky, genre-bending work. Amazing writing that wouldn't get picked up by a major publisher because they don't know what shelf they would put it on in Barnes & Noble. Those books still receive quality editing, etc.
I have always found it helpful to be able to discern self-published work from work that's published by professional independent publishing houses. Very little vanity-press work has had an impartial second eye look at it, and it's often annoying to read.
Oh, wait, I meant the authors. Filthy buggers, authors, all high handed with hat in hand and riding crop in the other.
Can't do anything with them.
I know every writer needs an editor, but jesus...

@10 for the win! Well-played, beef rallard.
