I don't think many people will buy the ad-supported version, but sales of the normal Kindle will probably increase. Even if the ads don't detract much from the overall e-reader experience, people will always pay a little extra for something that sounds annoying.
The game industry's major trend right now is the free-to-play model. In short, users can play for free, or remove ads and get extra content for a minimal subscription. Profits have over tripled for companies like Turbine once their game Lord of the Rings Online moved to this "freemium" model.
In short, $25 is too cheap not to pay for an ad-free Kindle.
I have some very old paperback books with cigarette ads in them- thick color sheets right in the middle of the book. I am looking at some on my bookshelves now from the mid 70's. It really did not work then, I doubt it will work now. I would rather pay for more to avoid them. After listening to satellite radio, I can never go back to ad supported regular radio.
I'm a cheap date, but then I also have a kitchen drawer full of electrician's tape, Gorilla Tape, and (kitschen drawer) Martha Stewart gingham contact paper.
(These things are also handy with persistent dashboard lights.)
Definitely not cheap enough. They should make it $49 - they wouldn't be able to keep them in stock. A $25 discount is nothing to be subjected to an unlimited number of ads for the life of the device.
I have a hacked nook color - now a fully functioning android 2.2 tablet computer with the nook APP installed. I also have the kindle app installed. so...keep your lesser device amz.
Is that like a Zune?

Amazon needs to be like combination mobile phone company and Netflix.
$20 a month, all you can read plan, with your choice of Kindle for 1 cent (2 year contract).
