If they are giving them away, can I have one?

I dont know why we dont admit an additional 1000, its not like 40 percent will not flunk out by the end of fall semester and an addition 30 percent at the end of winter/spring.

College is wasted on teenagers. anyone over the age of 26 should be admitted automatically and between 18 and 25, those could be by grades in HS or actual academic standards, with extra points the older the applicant is.

3
let me guess, womyn, you didn't go to college, are butthurt, etc.
4
@2 get your stats right: UW has a 90% retention rate from freshman year to sophomore year, one of the best in the country.
5
and .. charge them $12,000 in tuition in 2 years time.
6
You can't have a vibrant, walkable, world-class institution if you have to admit residents.
7
Nope, Six-Five; I did go to college.

I got a 2 year community college Nursing degree at 18 and my BA from the University of Pittsbug at 32.

Anything more for an 18 year old beyond a community college or technical school is a waste.
8
@7 Glad to know that everybody else was exactly like you at 18.
9
Womyn, you are being absurd, and generalizing to hundreds of thousands of students. WTF
10
I too went to community college, but then transferred to UW. My grades went up a full point after I transferred, from 2.x to 3.x. It certainly didn't get easier - it was because I finally came to a place where giving a shit would significantly enhance my experience.

A waste, my ass.

Right, and so my entire degree was a waste then? The degree that resulted in my getting hired to coordinate a large-scale study at one of the best children's hospitals in North America? The degree that took five years of pain to finish? Or are you just mad because you were too stupid at 18 to be able to get a real credential?
12
@7 I love Pittsbug. Great hogies there.

hey I'm UW teaching faculty -- good luck students, work your asses off and stay committed to intellectual growth/expansion no matter what the letter says!

#7 is absurdly out of touch. I have the privilege of teaching many, many exceptional, thoughtful, productive, fucking awesome young people on whom no effort is wasted. Can't wait to see you next fall!

Please wait...
