So, are they just going to go unpaid for the benefit of the children and teach anyway. Clearly it's necessary. We can't just let our children become less intelligent 'cause someone needs money.

Looks like the half day is going to be in winter, when the heating costs saved could be an extra bonus. That full day might be better placed in December for similar reasons, though August 31st has a certain fiscal calendar feel to it.
