I like Forch, and Jean's always been a terrible campaigner with a shithead manager. I'm not surprised that since (if Goldy's post is right) the only negative Forch job review was still the most recent one, Cathy Allen decided that darn well outweighed the rest. (And how she must have *loved* being able to have the flyer credit the Stranger with the reporting on that. Her witchy-poo cackle must have rung out loud and clear.)
Still, Jean's lousy, mean campaigning aside, I don't know if most voters believe as a sitting council member she has done a bad enough job to warrant starting from scratch. It's a lousy, boring gig most days, and she does show up for the grind more than most of us could imagine doing.
If Forch does manage to get past what he and his consultant thought was going to be a much easier-to-tip old lady, I'm sure he'll live up to enough of his promise that there's nothing to worry about. But this may not be his year. We'll see.
The mailing was full of distortions. Especially attacking bobby when he was taking care of his mom in the hospital. The Stranger is calling it like it is.
This mail piece is just sad. To take quotes out of context in an effort to paint them to represent a larger problem is the definition of being dishonest, and I'm glad for one the Stranger called them out for it.
And to top that off, the fact she is lying isn't even the worst thing on the flyer. She takes advantage of the fact the man cares about his mother who was in the ICU for political gain. I for one would never want some that cold hearted in charge of anything, let alone the city.
Is anyone surprised that Jean Godden and Cathy Allen stooped this low? This is typical of her campaign. Just 3 months ago they tried to use the murder of Maurice Classen's mom against him to score political points:
Gus amazes me, once again, with his astute analysis. Slog commentor of the year. Able to gently chide the Stranger when they go over the top and sincerely congratulate them when they get it right. Hire him.
At least she didn't include the results of the "guess the dirt" poll on her mailer. Although, honestly, including even that wouldn't have been strictly dishonest.
Aw, Michael, blush. But hiring? Please. I'm a kibitzer - I get joy from giving my totally unasked for view. Pay me to say what I think and I'd be bored of it in ten seconds. Plus, give me a deadline and I'll blow it just to make you stop giving me deadlines. No, it's only fun because it's free and unwanted.
Typical of the whining, hypocritical assholes at the Stranger to cry about that meanie Jean Godden going after their man.
For vile political smear pieces no one can beat the Stranger A week doesn't go by without Dan Savage, "Goldie" or another of the amoral snivelers launching a pottymouthed diatribe full of obvious and intentional lies. I don't even like Jean Godden but I'll vote for her anyway as I always use the Stranger endorsements as a guide of how NOT to vote.
If you're reading these comments and haven't already clicked on the links to Godden's direct mail brochure (above), please DO.
True, in an election of this kind, some of this is to be expected. But in this case, her campaign went over the line. This mailer is disgraceful.
A new low in Seattle local politics.
This is the best morning joke ever! Thanks Holden for the breakfast laugh!
The Strangers entire editorial policy is to use out of context quotes to make up for their lack of facts. You folks couldn't tell an unbiased news item to save your lives. Your cites rarely or never support your contentions. And YOU folks call out someone else for an out context cite?
@21: Your entire argumentative strategy is to use condescending language and hand-waving to make up for his lack of evidence or reasoning. And I can cite that assertion if you want.
Bobby is one of the most ethical people you'll ever meet. I've worked with him for twenty years. With public disclosure requests, does anyone think a smart city employee/ candidate would be less than METICULOUS about maintaining time sheets separating campaign work from regular employment? Ridiculous to even accuse him. Bobby is a man who works hard, takes care of his aging parents, and spends every available hour meeting with citizens all over Seattle, explaining why he wants this council position. He'd be a damn good council member. Godden's allegations suck and couldn't be farther from the truth.
This is dishonest, but it's not like Bobby's campaign has been all positive. Bobby accused Classen of lying, and himself lied about Classen's stance on paid sick leave, a lie which though debunked, I suspect still played a part in Bobby getting key progressive endorsements including the Stranger which got him through the primary.
Wait, I don't see a problem. Although the negative review was limited in scope, it's a negative review. It's not as if it wasn't issued. There's no problem with credibility or honesty in the Godden ad - it's a simple attack ad featuring an actual unfavorable review. What's the problem?
@28 ftw. what the slog echo chamber and forch apologists fail to address is that the performance evaluation is 100% true and accurate. forch's supervisor literally wrote that she is concerned about his ability to manage and make decisions. that is a scathing review -- far worse than 99% of us will ever get in our entire lives. and somehow he thinks he is ready to lead seattle.
What amazes me is that a black city of Seattle employee ever got a negative review. My experience in city hall is that there is an unwritten rule that they can not be called out for incompetence, and even criminal behavior isn't necessarily a cause for discipline or firing. A supervisor would have to have some very good evidence to back up a review like that or face the wrath of the social equity enforcers who reign supreme at city hall.
Say what you want about Jean Godden but at least she did spend her career in the private sector and in the public eye. Bobby Forch has been on the city payroll his entire working life.
The Stranger hates her because she is old. Agism is ok with them along with a disdain for white people who aren't living their mandatory alternative lifestyle of drugs, alcohol, promiscuous sex and most of all an undeserved elitism.
@28: If 19 out of 20 studies say that a drug is ineffective, but the company advertises the study that says it works, wouldn't you call that dishonest?
@33: When we smear people, we keep it factual.

Jean is the one who lacks Integrity. After she couldnāt find anything substantively wrong in her massive public disclosure requests, the only thing she could do was string together kernels of half truths and full-fledged lies together to try and soil an extremely decent human being.
* The supervisor who made that statement many years ago, no longer works for the City and was basically shown the door out due to her poor management skills. That one email - not performance review - when put into context with the 23 year stack of outstanding evaluations Bobby has received, it was obvious the email came from a troubled supervisor and not reflective of Bobby's performance at all.
* Godden calling Bobbyās āabuseā of sick leave is a blatant lie. In her massive public disclosure request she found out Bobby claimed 4 hours sick leave to visit his mom and 4 hours of vacation to drive back and forth from his visit on the day of the Stranger/Bus Forum which took place that night. That's the infamous "caught on video" accusation ā participating in the forum! He wasnāt out sneaking around doing campaign work during business hours!
Thereās calling people out for doing something wrong or making poor choices ā and then thereās what Jean did ā Slander. We need to get people like her off the council ā not re-elect them!

How is this different from taking one vote to make someone look more or less liberal?

HIlarious.
Time to stop lying. Oh yeah, I forgot...
give me a break,
