ANY question asked of a GOP candidate is, technically-speaking, a "gotcha question", because none of them seem capable of responding to even the simplest of queries without having a prepared answer already in front of them.
No one in the political media should continue to support the concept of a "gotcha" question. If it's a trick question โ say, asking them who holds an office that doesn't exist โ that's one thing, but a candidate for the presidency needs to have enough knowledge and poise to answer any question or articulate a good reason for not answering. Presidents don't get to whine.
