Ah, calling the legislature lawbreakers. Excellent strategy, young Hagopian.
2
I love it and wanted to link to it for my family. Your permalink is broken. :(
3
Jesse's good people. And his mom Amy's a veteran on the barricades as well.

Dumbinic, is Jennifer Fox there? DID SHE BRING HER MURDERED FETUS? The world press wants to know. They reported your story about her MURDERED FETUS. The Guardian, Belfast Times, SO MANY INTERNATIONAL NEWS OUTLETS, YOU MUST BE SO PROUD, DUMBINIC. So did she bring her murdered fetus(es) to toss onto the Capitol Steps? DID SHE, DUMBINIC????????????????
5
"Domes have incredible acoustics, ya know."

Kinda like Town Hall?
6
Are they calling for taxing the rich (progressive), or do they want to fucking raise sales taxes again (regressive)?
7
Don't go for second best, Dumbinic
Put the fetus to the test
You know you know you got to
Make the fetus express how it feels
And maybe then you know the love is real

Here are some ideas for revenue:

Income tax on people who make more than $250,000.
Luxury tax on things like $60 bottles of scotch and $60,000 cars.
Outsourcing tax on WA-based corporations that send jobs overseas.
Poverty-wage tax on corporations that don't pay their employees enough to get off of government subsidies.
18% interest on money borrowed by big banks from the Federal Reserve to cover negligent lending practices, collected by the Federal Government and paid back to states in proportion to the damage big banks did to each state's revenue (it's what Citi offered to charge me for a credit card).
Foreclosure tax on any profit banks make by foreclosing on property in WA.

9
We were calling for taxing the rich. NOT regressive sales taxes. Moreover we were asking legislators to DO THEIR JOBS. Funding education is job #1 according to our constitution.
10
TAX THE RICH...WHERE IS THE MONEY? HOW CAN STATE LEGISLATORS CHOOSE TO IGNORE THE CONSTITUTIONAL MANDATE TO ADEQUATELY AND EQUITABLE IGNORE EDUCATION? FREE JESSE. SPEAK UP PEOPLE.

We did very good. Our house members were only in session for about 5 minutes before they went to Recess. If we called recess after 5 minutes of school, us teachers would lose our jobs.
12
We did good today! I was proud to be part of this. The house surprised us though and called for a recess after about 5 minutes (including the pledge and prayer). If teachers called for recess 5 minutes after we started our day we would be fired.

The resistance continues tonight. Action shots available at http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1… , http://www.facebook.com/OccupyOlympia?re… , probably others.

Reports from local sources, observers, participants report violence by police against people who had NOTHING to do with any violent behavior--a personal friend was shoved by OPD, another tazered--a couple people tazered repeatedly.

Intercity buses--Unionized, no less--were driven up to take away people arrested for exercising first amendment rights. Protesters responded by laying down in front of buses, moving picnic benches in front of them, etc. This nonviolent resistance was--unsurprisingly--responded to with further violence from the police.

The livestream person is believed to have been arrested but here's what he got before that: http://www.livestream.com/occupyolympia

from one of the attendees tonight via facebook:

"we people-linked around the bus stopping it from taking arrestees
then they just let loose
they started strangling me and threw me against a car
then we started chaining back
and one tackled me and slammed my head into the mud
then i got back up
and started walking away
when another one grabbed me by the shirt
lifted me off the ground, threw me a
nd when i got up
a cop punched me in the face and i fell back down"

another, documenting only, was smashed by the cops while NOT participating in any action.

great revenue ideas here & also MUCH THANKS to all the teachers who participated!!!! You set a great example to the rest of us, although I wish the troopers had more respect for a citizens arrest.. I am in CA & when searching 'requirements for citizens arrest washington state' the results were not helpful at all, & the one pdf page by dol.wa.gov was " http://www.dol.wa.gov/business/securityg… " So much to say, summarized, this is disappointing & makes me wonder if my state is any better on the topic.

I hope you're not teaching English as a Proud Public School Teacher.

If you understand math you know two things.

1) Taxing the income on those who make over $250k 100% of their income over 250k will fix only 5% of the budget deficit.

2) U.S. spends more per student on education than any developed nation in the world. The output is not in line with the inputs as kids here aren't competitive with kids from other developed worlds. Cutting spending isn't necessarily the solution, but until teachers are more accountable (as a group, there are hundreds of outstanding teachers), they don't really have a leg to stand on. Make some concessions, like merit based pay, benefits in line with the private sector, longer school hours and less school holidays, and you will find taxpayers more likely to be on board with increased education spending.

And before someone goes off about the money going towards administration and overhead; teachers are in the best position to revamp the system (including eliminating the union overlords that pocket so much of the taxpayer money and use to further their self interests).
18
I was proud to be part of this action. We need to do more. Lets not stop the fight.

These teachers are people I work with, and I am so proud of them! This took not only a weekend of their time during the holiday season, but it also took great courage among professionals generally known for their desire to smooth things over and avoid conflict. I could burst with admiration. (And if I could climb stairs, I would have gone with them!)

Please wait...
