Ooof, there is no way I would open a Thai place there. It is among the best Thai in the city, if not the very best, but that space is tough, and folks in this town take out Thai, rather than dine in.

Hope I am wrong - and I am rooting for them - but I'd bet it doesn't do well there at all.

It bugs the shit out of me that the location on Capitol Hill is only open for lunch, monday through friday- which means I get to eat it... never.

On top of that, the one time I managed to get there during a weekday lunch, they ran out of almost everything before 1, and they only take cash. Incredibly frustrating.

Did you review that yummy place on N 45th between Roosevelt and University - about halfway, near the Subway?

They have great Thai.

@1

They are so good at what they do, it will work. Best food ever, amazing service, they create an incredibly welcoming and warm atmosphere, etc. They will make it work in SLU, you will see.

@2

The owners are smart. They can rake in the $$ only having to work lunches, so they can enjoy their lives. People work their schedules around *their* schedule-- Thai Curry Simple is *that* good.
5
@4 Yeah... but is wasn't that good. Don't get me wrong- it wasn't bad Thai food, it just wasn't "that good" that I would rearrange my work schedule on a regular basis to drive back to the hill to eat it.

IMHO, In the Bowl is better- and they're open for dinner too.

@1,I wish people in Seattle were able to be encouraging when someone is taking a risk. There's no Thai around there. The neighborhood is rocking at lunch with Amazon, and starting to get busy at dinner. This is a great idea, and I for one will make it work by spreading the word at my office and dragging people there.

Still hoping to find them put up another Stranger Mart coupon, but I suspect those days or over.

#1 Has clearly not set foot in SLU in about 5 years.
9
@8: yeah... maybe.

i worked in building 27 since it opened and BMB was deserted at all hours. then again, BMB had a major identity crisis: a horrible name, good-but-not-that-good food, and a bit of an identity crisis (sports bar? almost fine dining? dive bar?). BMB just couldn't seem to pull off consistency.

even with a few thousand amazonians around, BMB found a way to fail. best of luck to thai curry simple. those of us who transferred from pac med really missed good asian food in our newfound SLU digs.

@9,

Did you see BMB's website? A horrifying throwback to the late '90s. I half expected them to use animated gifs.

I parked by there last summer, and the interior screamed sports bar.

@5: It's actually exactly what they say it is: Thai street food, served quickly.

After my wife and I came back from visiting Bangkok, it's the only Thai place whose food reminded me of perching on tiny plastic stools at a sidewalk stand and eating great Thai street food. It's not the same as fancy Thai restaurant dishes, because it's not supposed to be. It's Thai street food for the same price as a burger and fries, which I think is an amazingly good deal.

@1, I like TCS, and I eat there often (I work in the ID), but it's nowhere near the best Thai in the city.

However, I do think it will do well in SLU. Amazon is popping at the seams, and the lunch crowd alone will keep TCS afloat. Also, they offer takeout.
13
@1 is right about one thing: That is one ugly building, which will limit its appeal for the post-work crowd. Perhaps they can do something with the interior, but I have doubts.

On the other hand, the blanket statement that "...folks in this town take out Thai, rather than dine in..." is patently ridiculous.

TCS has terrible hours on the hill. I only get to go there when I work from home, and 2 different times they have run out of food hours before they closed and turned me away.

So fucking good to eat but please suck less at running a business.
15
@14 - Hmmm. Opening two successful restaurants in a bad economy, and expanding to a third. So popular they sometimes run out of food before 3pm.

Yes, that's the very definition of sucking at running a business.
16
If you want their food and miss the hours on the Hill, get on a bus and go to the ID. It's...not...that...far.
17
Best Thai food in town! I can't wait to see their new digs. They really are sweet folks, I hope this works out.
18
I just stood in a line for Curry Now at the Ace Hardware parking lot. If the lease is reasonable, this should be a great addition to the neighborhood.

That is a great idea by TCS. Amazon used to be down in the ID; they moved to SLU; Amazon folks miss TCS (my team has been anticipating this since they heard about it); TCS moves to Amazon folks - genius. Those prices are seriously competitive with the food trucks in the neighborhood for lunch (which are supposed to have the best cost structure). TCS is going to kill this, and congrats to them for having the foresight. Food is great, prices are great, location is great. The only thing that could ruin this is a not so smart landlord.

Please wait...
