Very sweet.
3
Seeing them in front of such a tangible icon of American power is breathtaking.
5
Very sweet!
6
@5, hey, I heard a rumor it was yer birthday. Happy Birthday!
7
Yes Happy Birthday!
8
Happy birthday, Kim!
9
It was, yesterday, and thank you Fnarf and Lissa. And, Rob, too (different thread). You all are very sweet!
10
Thank you, Dan.

*clinks glass*
11
So great. Though I definitely share Fran Lebowitz's view, "Why do gay people want to get married and be in the military, which are the two worst things about being straight?” I also share her delight that we're now at least getting freer to do these awful things!
12
(And happy birthday, Kim, for what my $0.02 is worth.)
14
It is worth heaps, gus. Thank you.
15
When I saw that photo earlier today, I thought of the Eisenstaedt photo of the sailor kissing the nurse.
16
Simply marvelous!
17
To me, this image captures the values of America better than any Rick Perry TV spot could.
18
I hope it's not too late for this photo to make it into those year-end "Images of 2011" packages.
19
@17, that is a low bar. A Monty Python sketch captures the values of America better than any Rick Perry TV spot could.
20
I think it was meant to be too. Congrats ladies. And happy birthday Kim. Hope you are having an excellent birthday.
21
Awwwww!
22
Dan Savage: "Wow—just wow. I love me some smart, articulate, photogenic lesbian sailors!"

You love?

FAP!
23
Wow, that is one dashing lesbian soldier.

Dan, I think you're right, there's a big shift underway right now.
24
Seriously- those two are gorgeous girls. They make for an extremely picturesque image.

@23 "dashing" is absolutely perfect to describe that woman. And her girlfriend is also absolutely lovely.
25
@23 Sailor, not soldier. I hear they get cranky if you confuse them with their rival services.
26
That video is awesome. And @15 that was my first thought about the photo also.
27
Good on them.
28
:')
29
I love that they're so cute!

BTW: Can we quit calling her the 'lesbian sailor' and instead use her name/rank? Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta.

Thanks for your service, Ms. Gaeta.
30
love!!
also, looks like they are engaged.
31
They're gorgeous! And cute... awwww!

And happy belated birthday Kim!
32
Happy birthday, Ms. Kim, often a voice of compassion & caring. :)

Damn, those are some lovely & intelligent sailor ladies. Thanks for serving, Ms. Gaeta & Ms. Snell.
33
I hope I am not the only person who feels my nerd when I notice it is a naval officer named Gaeta in a same-sex relationship. I hope she doesn't lose her leg because of the freakish certainty a(n) (undefined entity) and lead a (seemingly reasonable but actually wrongheaded) mutiny.
34
I love a woman in a uniform!
35
As a member of the army of Jesus General patriotboy.blogspot.com/ I know that not-men can not be gay because they don't have little soldiers to put in each others mouths.

Therefore this does not count!
36
@33: YES.
37
@33, 36 - Ah - Batt Gal nerds. I envy you - I miss all the good shows (and I'm too dumb to remember to set my Tivo-thingy).

And Kim - sorry to be late to this train - Happy Birthday to the Notorious K.I.P! Hope you're in great health and best to all yr loved ones.
38
@11 Answer: Because warriors come in a lot of different shapes & sizes. Love, peace & freedom aren't possible without them.
39
Check out that rock on her finger.
40
@33 - I wonder if she can mournfully sing too?
41
As a former soldier, I love this image. As a gay man in a committed relationship, I love this image. As an American, I love this image.

As a human being, I love this image.
42
@41 - I agree with you (as a straight man in a committed relationship). It makes me smile with every possible hat I can wear.

(I do hope that a similarly iconic image of two men can emerge (though I think the older couple (with the Vietnam vet) in the New England cafe (was it VT or NH) could have been one))
43
How Sweet! :)

And Iconic! :o

And Sanitized! ;)

Danny,
have you heard about the new Kissing Lesbian ride at Disney World?
44
That's awesome!
45
@41-42, I can see this image being used in the future in a documentary about the evolution of gay rights in America. Indeed it is such a beautiful scene. One wonders which background music/song should go with it.

@33, indeed! But hey -- the name "Gaeta" was wrongly pronounced in the "reimagined" Battelstar Galactica series, not as it should be in Italian. (Let's face it: the reimagined series was no longer about Caprica and the 12 colonies and their survival; it was about the US, Europe, the West... The original series was much more 'exotic.')
47
My god, they are so striking. I'm very happy for them.
48
My GOD I have a crush on the one in uniform.

Please wait...
