"Meddling interference"?

Harry Reid on gay marriage:

Senator Reid is a member of the mormon church and has stated that he agrees with the church's position that marriage is between one man and one woman.

He voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act but against a constitutional amendment to make marriage between one man and one woman.

Joe Biden on gay marriage (video)

Q: "Do you support gay marriage?"

BIDEN: "No, Barack Obama nor I support redefining, from a civil side, what constitutes marriage. We do not support that. That is basically a decision to be able to be left to the faiths and people who practice their faiths to determine what you call it."

This really is a clever act of demonstration, just the right amount of coercion, applied at a very precise level. Though I'm a happily retired Catholic, myself, I would love to see some NALTs nut up and do this.

@1et al. Never change, Supreme.
6

I would suggest you copy my argument from Genesis and put it in the plate:

http://yrihf.com/viewtopic.php?t=856&hig…

7
SROTU probably thinks extreme right wing Prime Minister Harper of Canada represents the view of Canada's courts or citizens too ...
8
Yes!! Genesis

There's too many men
Too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
9
@6: You're all about the fowl fucking, aren't ya, SROTU?
10
Dear, dear, Dear Leader, do try to focus: this is about Seattle Catholics. Barack Obama is not a Catholic, and Joe Biden does not belong to a Seattle parish.
11
I forgot to add that perhaps - and just perhaps - I shall arise early, put on a girdle and my best mink, and drag myself over to St Peter's, or Mt Olive, or even St. Edwards (which I've always wanted to see the inside of) just to drop one of those notes in the basket.

Maybe I'll even stay for breakfast - even though that wafer is pure carbs, and the communal wine is just flu waiting to happen.
12
Or:

"In response to the church's campaign against marriage equality, I am withholding my usual pledge of $_____ and instead making a donation in that amount to Washington United for Marriage."
13
@11 When I still went to mass, every winter without fail they emphasized that the communion wine is not a likely vector for spreading the flu. They even cited scientific studies (insert science/religion joke here.)

Beyond that, the thing I always found odd were the germophobes that wouldn't shake hands with you when it came time to offer a sign of peace. They would wave. Standing right next to you. They would wave.
14
how about just quitting church? there is no such thing as "god" or "gods" or anything "supernatural" so just use your resources in a more productful way (try donating your time and money to charities that support the environment, equal rights and animal welfare).
15
ah- Liberals fast at their favorite past time;
bitching about what charities they are not going to support.
drop those notes, girls.
but don't expect to fool anyone.

EVERYONE knows Liberals are the stingiest segment of the population-
always braying about taxing someone else to help the poor.
never giving their own money or time.
'I gave at the office'? well, no, actually;
but I do bitch for the 'rich' to be taxed more.....

fortunately they seem oblivious otherwise they'd surely die of embarrassment and humiliation like anyone with any human feelings and awareness would do in that situation.

so go ahead;
lets call this post:
"Another Charity Slog Liberal's WON"T Be Donating To #254"
16
Xenon, when Mother Vel-DuRay got the lymphoma and was getting chemo, she wasn't supposed to leave the house. But she insisted on keeping her weekly hair appointment (until it fell out) and attending weekly mass - Noblesse Oblige, and all that.

Sister Vel-DuRay, heaved a sigh, and took her to chuch. But at every "offering of peace", she would make sure to shake hands with Mother and I last - and that handshake was always 99% Purel.

That was five years ago, and she still does it.
17
I still dont see why you libfags condone pedophila, everything is else is pretty muchok to you. besides if being gay is not a disease or a illness then i suspect neither is pedophila.
18
Oh, I was hoping we'd hear from the troll, what with his philantopic instinct. He really has his finger on the pulse of Seattle charity.

I'm sure the Stroums, Gates, Benaroyas, Polls, and all the other hard-core conservatives are right there with him. Where would Seattle's charity scene be without them?
19
sorry lady but i can tell you one thing the mehicans who goto st. marys (which quincendtly is a huge booster for amnesty and dream and all that jazz) just are not that into gays.
20
Oh, I want to play! I'm Catholic, but I leave in California. Also, I hardly ever go to Mass, and when I do I don't give money. I hate to think that my $1 is going to send some priest to "rehab" so that he can continue to rape children.
21
Hey SROTU, ever consider that the POTUS, Joe, and Harry might be pretending to be against marriage equality so that they might have a chance of getting re-elected ? A marriage equality position is still political suicide in America. Sad but true.
22
@16 On the one hand I'm glad you responded but on the other you misspelled my name- guess it's a wash.

But seriously, people that coat their hands in moisturizer/sanitizer and shake hands with me piss me the fuck off. Dry your fucking hands, people!

At least I hope it's moisturizer/sanitizer *shudder*.
23
There's no reason you have to be Catholic to go to a Catholic church and put such a note into the plate. Even Jews could do so and this one just might. Except the note will be a bit more explicit.
24
Do liberal Catholics go to church? All the liberal theists I know never go to church.
25
why not put in a thankyou note from a marriage equality group and promise to match that donation to the church when they start treating all loving adult couples with respect to equality.
26
Since I came up with idea, I have to say I like #12's approach. Use that instead.
27
17

Just so.

Danny claims his particular brand of deviant perversion is Normal and Natural, because, gosh- the penguins do it!- but condemns those attracted to children or animals.

pot? kettle?

What makes those attractions any less valid than his?

Danny likes to imagine himself open-minded and sex-positive but he is just as narrow minded and intolerant as the Fundies he imagines he is so superior to;
the only difference is that he champions a different set of orientations and marriage configurations.

Strip away the veneer and underneath they are all the same bigot haters.
28
I do apologize, Xenos dear. I'm blind as a bat to begin with, far too vain to wear glasses, and this dreadful computer isn't helping any.

Sister-woman got in the Purell habit because people on Chemo - or so we were told - aren't supposed to be out in public with the riff-raff because of infections. And that town is nothing but riff-raff.

And I hear you about the sanitizer. I use it for work and it it's murder.
29
The Catholic Church is no democracy. I think all this would get you is a talking to about the proper use of the collection plate and the Church's stance on the issue.
30
#29 - we'll just see about that. In the end, everything boils down to money, even in the church.
31
Liberal Catholics who routinely claim that the Vatican's global bigotry doesn't represent them (LCWRCTTVGBDRT, for short) don't really exist, do they? Like most of the so-called "gay allies" we hears so much about, they tend to evaporate when they actually have to do something about their "beliefs" - like vote, or write letters, or even understand the issues. Sorry, but I've been down this road before with my own coterie of "gay allies." Apathy abounds.
32
@30 you are right - everything is about the numbers. In my opinion, not contributing and/or not attending have more effect than leaving a note in the collection plate challenging the Church's position on any issue.
33
@32: uh, leaving a note saying you are not giving money instead of giving money IS not giving money.
34
tniel has it right. As much as religions like to gas on about the eternal truth of their scriptures, they change their tune PDQ when the theology interferes with the revenue stream.

I believe that The Catholic church is coming up on a real crisis. Their membership is on the decline to begin with, they don't have enough clergy to meet the demand, and they seem to be intent on chasing away all the normal people. Once the old folks die off, it will be nothing but the nutcases and closet queens. That's not workable in the long run.
35
Back before the Catholic Church chucked me out on my ass for coming out of the closet, I got my annual "sign up for your collection envelopes and let us know how much money to expect from us so we can send you a polite note if you aren't keeping up with your donations" letter - days after one of my close friends who was a "part time" (as in 50+ hours but no benefits) church employee had to organize a mass that included a second collection for medical insurance premiums for their priest who was on a "personal leave" (while shacking up with his girlfriend).

I responded with a letter about how they couldn't expect money from me. I don't remember all of it, but I do remember the phrase "I intend to donate my money and time to organizations that do the work of Christ on earth. When the Catholic Church becomes one, I will reconsider donating to it."

Resulted in an actually very pleasant private interview with my own parish priest, who actually seemed to agree with me on a lot of points. (Who then subsequently left the church to marry the parish administrator. Go figure.)

especially in the church.
you girls don't seem to get that catholicism has been an apostate cult for over 1800 years....

re: Texas Evangelicals endorsing Santorum....

Actually this is good for Mitt.
Santorum isn't going to win the nomination but the longer he hangs in there the longer the fundy vote is splintered.
And Santorum has been smart enough not to bad mouth Mitt.
Had the Texas gathering gotten behind Newt it would have been more problematic for Romney.
As it is, Mitt gets the nomination and Santorum and all his fundy support fill out the ticket.

A Romney/Santorum ticket actually has pretty broad Center-Right appeal.

And Santorum's 'google' problem is no problem at all.

Anyone who will be voting for Romney/Santorum will see it as a total disgusting dick move.
In fact, if anyone in that demographic has ever heard of Danny (not many....) the fact that Danny hates Santorum will be all the reason they need to support him.

You girls misjudge how the google "problem" will play if it ever reaches the light of day:
associating someone's name with poop is a third grade stunt. literally. sure you apes don't get that, and see it as really witty and cool, but- no.
the two facts anyone/everyone in Real America will carry away from the 'google' cleverness are:
1- Feces? Damn that's disgusting. What filthy perverts....
and
2- Wow that Danny is a malicious retarded little Prick- his mother must've snorted a buttload of crack when she was pregnant.

and if the 'google' thing actually seeds the light of day conservatives will force Obama to repudiate it as an inappropriate dick head stunt and there you will be with the Chosen One forced to confess that Danny is an immature Prick.

so, keep it up, every link takes us one step closer to what will be for Obama and Danny a precious special kind of humiliation.....
38
Dominic,
You wore cords and a sweater and went to Catholic schools? So how did you turn out to be such a dumb shit?

Roman Catholic Church leaders think that oppressing LGBT people everywhere is more important than ending poverty, hunger, illness, and homelessness.

But they never disclose the tens of millions of dollars they secretly waste on anti-LGBT politics while children are dying.

Every Catholic churchgoer should demand an independent public audit showing all dollars spent on anti-LGBT propaganda, lobbyists, campaigns, and politicians. Then they should halt such efforts by refusing to fund them ever again.
