I don't think this is going to win anyone back. Their public policy VP is still a piece of shit and still working there.

And now they've pissed off the right wingers too.

I don't see a bright future for Komen.
2
There are better organizations that fight breast cancer. Organizations that aren't run by a bunch of right wing haters and bigots who play ugly games.
3
I wonder if they'll give people who quit in protest their jobs back? If they don't the organization will tilt even further to the right than it did in the past.
4
Yeah, right, and changing your mind had nothing to do with all the stories on the Internet, TV and the "New York Times" basically calling you assholes and political tools of ignorant right-wing fuckers. Oh, and not the fact that you could see your donations dropping by half in the coming months. Wouldn't want to lose your sweet, fancy, well-paying jobs at Komen.
5
Or to be more clear, "Please keep sending that sweet, sweet cash and we'll keep giving a sliver of it to good causes."
It's not easy getting a big fat salary like that for begging, you really don't want to piss off the donors.
6
When will they quietly fire Karen Handel?
7
Now I'm just left wondering why I would write a check to SGK when I could send one to Planned Parenthood myself. And then, they can even spend it on abortions if they want.
8
This sure as hell has been an eye opener for everyone.

A lot of people (myself included) had no idea about Komen's political agenda, and apparently Komen had no idea that people will fight for abortion rights.

I hope Komen goes down as a result of this and other organizations step into its place. The right needs to learn that if they want to pick a fight with us over the right to choose, they're going to get asses kicked hard.

P.S. This policy reversal doesn't necessarily mean Planned Parenthood will get any grant money from them. They can always cook up other reasons to reject a grant application.

Anyone else getting a 403 forbidden error from that link?
10
I got the 403 error when I tried to comment. Guess my "nice try you pieces of shit" equivalent wasn't welcome.

Seriously, screw these guys.
11
Read their weasel words carefully: they won't stop funding of Planned Parenthood this year, but have set up new new criteria that will exclude PP from funding from here on in.

KOMEN'S CORPORATE SPONSORS

You know what to do.
12
That link boinged for anyone else?
13
@12, same for me. I think we broke the InterWebs.
14
Fortunately, this has "un-masked" the right wing bullshit behind Komen for many, many people who had NO idea about all that.

"Ooopsidoodle! Sorry!" just isn't going to cut it.

...We extend our deepest thanks for the outpouring of support we have received from so many in the past few days...
She's in danger of disturbing her helmet-hair, blowing so hard on the ol' dog whistle.

The ONLY people supporting them in the last few days have been those pissing themselves with glee at the thought of dinging Planned Parenthood yet again.

Statement from Susan G. Komen Board of Directors and Founder and CEO Nancy G. Brinker

DALLAS - February 3, 2012 - We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives. The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.

Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair.

Our only goal for our granting process is to support women and families in the fight against breast cancer. Amending our criteria will ensure that politics has no place in our grant process. We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities.

It is our hope and we believe it is time for everyone involved to pause, slow down and reflect on how grants can most effectively and directly be administered without controversies that hurt the cause of women. We urge everyone who has participated in this conversation across the country over the last few days to help us move past this issue. We do not want our mission marred or affected by politics – anyone’s politics.

Starting this afternoon, we will have calls with our network and key supporters to refocus our attention on our mission and get back to doing our work. We ask for the public’s understanding and patience as we gather our Komen affiliates from around the country to determine how to move forward in the best interests of the women and people we serve.

We extend our deepest thanks for the outpouring of support we have received from so many in the past few days and we sincerely hope that these changes will be welcomed by those who have expressed their concern.

@14. It'd be better if they did say 'oopsidoodle', but this is more like "we didn't even do it, but if you're mad or whatever we apologize that you're stupid".

EXACTLY the way a 12-year-old apologizes.
18
They are lying.

Just kick em to the curb.

The most recent blog post shows from January 19. They must have already misplaced it...

Please wait...
