1
finally we have an actual Dem candidate.

And McKenna supposedly can't campaign while the special session's on.
2
Maybe he can get career tips from Dino when he loses
3
Great news from Jay! When you have the advantage, pour it on!
4
(Hoquiam [twice])
5
Troll dear, Jay Inslee's a great guy, and smart as a whip - unlike that whiny, sleazy, foreclosure queen Dino Rossi.

People always ask why Republicans field such dreadful candidates, but to me, the answer is simple: They're dreadful people. GOP candidates, with all their sex problems, sociopathic tendencies, and lack of imagination, represent the best of the GOP membership. Isn't that pathetic?
6
Yikes! There's really a place call "Humptulips"?
7
"People always ask why Republicans field such dreadful candidates, but to me, the answer is simple: They're dreadful people."

You guys lost to George W. Bush. Twice. What does that say about you?
8
But that's not true, now is it dear? Bush was installed by the Supreme Court the first time, after Republican thugs threw a drama fit, and a Republican Secretary of State showed exactly what her price was.

The second time around, might have been legitimate, but again there were similar "irregularities"

It just seems like Republicans can't win an election fairly. That's because the country is not majority dreadful people. I'd be pretty ashamed of myself if I were you - but shame is not a Republican characteristic.
9
Dear Troll @7:

It says that far too many people in this country would rather be led by a dreadful person they feel comfortable having a beer with, than be led by a far less dreadful person they don't feel comfortable having a glass of Bordeaux with.
10
There are plenty of undesirables in both parties. Time to look past our stereotypes and feel grateful that there are still folks of both parties who choose to endure the brutality of campaigns for a the noble profession of public service.
11
Was it "I need to get out there" ... or "I need to get out of there"? DC is a toxic waste dump these days.
12
Phoebe dear, I love your new look, and that hat truly is to die for. But your tired old moral equivalency argument does get me down.

Yes, there are plenty of ratty Democrats. But at the end of the day, the GOP is rat city. Can you really deny that, old chum?
13
@10 I'd say that the sensationalism and brutality of campaigns is a flaw of the system, not some source of heroism.
14
@12: Thank you so much Catalina for your kind compliment on my hat. I wish I could find it though, been rummaging around for it for years.

There's no reason to deny anything, but to examine the ideas and their proponents at hand, case by case. You practice generalizatonalism, which is rampant on Slog, and is ultimately very boring.

@13: I agree, I never thought the endurance as heroic, but nevertheless admirable.

15
Phoebe dear, we'll always be bosom buddies: friends, neighbors and pals. I've gossiped and gloated, but I'm so devoted.....

If you could kindly point me to any Republican politician who wasn't a resident of Rat City, I'd surely appreciate it.

Lunch? Soon?
16

I'm all (IN) because I'm Jay (IN)slee.
I'm a Seattle, Wash(IN)gton (IN)sider.

Get it? GET IT?!?!?!?!

Vote for me, (IN)slee and nothing will change (Thank God).

(Thinks to self: If someone actually calls us INs on our BS, then we're doomed...we'll have to do real work!)
17
Indeed we will Catalina! And we should toast each other at lunch. I suggest Maximilien's in the Pike Place Market. My doctor is even allowing me to have a cocktail at lunch these days.

I will gladly abide by your request. Let me start with one of several: Abraham Lincoln - our first Republican president and when you think of it, America's original equality party.
18
Another Dem liar.

Inslee lied during the congressional campaign -- denying that he had any ambition to run for governor (even though a governorship campaign related domain name was discovered).

And, after being elected to congress he promised that he would not resign to seek the governorship.

liar liar. Another perfect Dem candidate.
19
Lincoln is an excellent answer, as he was about the second to last Republican worth voting for.
20
"But that's not true, now is it dear? Bush was installed by the Supreme Court the first time, after Republican thugs threw a drama fit, and a Republican Secretary of State showed exactly what her price was."

Bush was installed in exactly the same fashion Gregoire was.
21
"But that's not true, now is it dear? Bush was installed by the Supreme Court"

Bush was installed in exactly the same fashion as Gregoire (he won.)

Also what's with the senile grandmother posting steeze? Didn't know any of them hung out on Slog.
22
"Bush was installed by the Supreme Court the first time"

Bush was installed in exactly the same fashion Gregoire was. Nice posting-as-someone-dressed-up-as-a-witch-for-Halloween posting gimmick btw
23
Welp didn't show up after the third time, sorry if it shows up 3 times later
24
Hey Slog, how's your comments system? Are you cool?
25
@15 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbmbdWK63… How quickly we forget.
26
Oh my, I think somebody fed the troll liquor. Five posts in eight minutes. Who knew he could type so fast?

Bush did not win. Gore caved on the recount trying to be statesman-like in the face of a criminal enterprise. When the NYT finally did do the recount, they found that he had indeed won, but by that time everyone was running around being all nine-ellevenish and wrapping themselves in the flag. (although ninnies like our friend the troll were probably hiding under the bed)

And Phoebe dear, what say we bring it into recent history? I would give you Eisenhower. Wonderful man, even if he did bring us the interstate system. And even though he was a criminal, I have a soft spot for Nixon, seeing as he bought us both the EPA and Amtrak. And hell, while we're at it, I'll raise a glass to Hoover, who was a good man, but inept at economics. Poor old Gerald Ford wasn't a bad sort either.
27
Inslee is a consummate asshole,...
28
"Bush did not win. Gore caved on the recount trying to be statesman-like in the face of a criminal enterprise."

Except that's not what happened at all now, is it? I'm seeing a pattern here. The Florida Supreme Court ordered "counting of the legal votes contained within the undervotes in all counties where the undervote has not been subjected to a manual tabulation." The U.S. Supreme Court overruled the Florida Supreme Court and stopped their recount. The NORC study which was sponsored by the AP, NYT, etc. found that the only way that Gore would have won was by using counting methods that were never requested by any party. Including Gore. Bush won. DWI.
29
Oh, we're all "dealing with it", troll dear. The criminal syndicate, enabled by the feeble-minded such as yourself, really did a number on the country, didn't they? They're the gift that keeps on giving, as that massacre in Afghanistan proves. Thank God we were spared McCain. And Dino, for that matter,

And thank you for agreeing with me: If all the votes had been counted, Gore would have won. But we ended up with an installed leader.
30
He looks like hell in these photos, and that counts for a lot these days with swing voters. He needs a stylist or something, that open-shirt look isn't working.
31
Because, after all, Rob McKenna is SUCH a stud....,
32
Rob McKenna is, of course, Uriah Heep.
33
"The criminal syndicate, enabled by the feeble-minded such as yourself"

So Gore's campaign was a member of the criminal syndicate then, got it
34
Cackles incomprehensibly, strokes black cat, flies off on broom*
35
Speaking of feeble-minded, maybe if so many dimbulb Democratic voters could have figured out how to work a fucking butterfly ballot Gore might have actually won the election. But they didn't, and he didn't.
36
Oh troll, I know you're hungover and all - whoever fed you liquor should be good and ashamed of themselves - but there's no need to be so fretful. Drink lots of water, get plenty of rest, and tomorrow you'll be good as new.

But a word of caution: Naïveté is charming in young people who are reasonably attractive, but just pathetic in older people. You don't want to end up as one of those nebulously angry, middle-aged white guys, do you? People are only nice to them - when they are nice to them - because they are hoping to swindle them or inherit something from them.

I only say it because I care.....
37
It's good to see you know when you've lost at least. Good day to you sir/madam
38
Oh troll, poor troll..... Do try to focus, won't you?

As you admitted yourself, Bush lost. Yes, Gore caved - partly because he, like most normal people, were appalled by how thuggish the Republicans were being. But that doesn't change the fact that Bush lost, and was installed in office by the Supreme Court.

I know you people aren't big on personal responsibility, and would rather project your faults, failings and poor life choices on others, rather than be honest with yourself, but still - as I said above, when naïveté descend into full-blown delusion, it never ends well.

I'll pray for you....
39
"Yes, Gore caved."

Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnope. Gore wouldn't have won even if he'd gotten everything he wanted. The NORC's report explicitly shows that Bush would have won any of the recounts requested by the Gore campaign.

Reread that. Bush would have won any of the recounts requested by the Gore campaign.

That includes the one ordered by the Florida Supreme Court that was halted by the US Supreme court. That means Bush won. Not kinda won, not won with an asterisk, won outright. Which is why he became President. You can stick your fingers in your ears and scream LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU all you'd like until Dorothy comes to throw water on you, but it doesn't change the facts. Bush won fair and square.

Naïveté indeed. Naïveté is believing that sinister dark forces are really controlling everything that's going on but only myself and a few other "enlightened" folk know the REAL story!

Tell me Catalina, what do you believe occurred on 9/11?
40
Oh troll, now we're going to 9-11? Really? How did we get from the 2000 election results (which you yourself said Gore won in post 28 - only no one asked for the "special recount" that would have shown him winning.) to 9-11?

But if we must.....

Two hijacked airliners crashed into the World Trade Center. The resulting fires caused the buildings to collapse.

Another hijacked airplane crashed into the pentagon. A fourth was apparently bought down by the passengers after fighting the hijackers.

The hijackers, mostly Saudi nationals, we're affiliated with Al Quida (or however it's spelled) a terrorist groups lead by Osama Bin Laden, another Saudi National. Is that good enough for you, troll dearest?

But to recap: in 2000, election fraud, combined with massive court intervention, and Republican thuggishness, caused the appointment of an illegitimate, unelected president. No tinfoil hats. No talk about the gold standard. No black helicopters. It's all there, and you said it yourself.

Poor dear gullible troll..... I bet you're cute when you're tipsy.
41
Good to see you're not completely off your (assuredly well-worn) rocker.

"which you yourself said Gore won in post 28 - only no one asked for the "special recount" that would have shown him winning.)"

I said no such thing. Any scenario that had Gore winning would have involved counting illegally marked ballots for starters (overvotes etc.) If I take an 8.5"x11" piece of paper, write "Presidenshul Ballut" on it, write down two or more names of people running for President with little squares next to them, put an X through one of those squares, and mail it in along with my identifying information, it's not a vote for that candidate. It doesn't count. Neither were/did many of those.

"But to recap: in 2000, election fraud"

Dead people voted? People voted more than once? People crying election fraud in Florida is no different than when it was called in Washington. It's nonsense.

"combined with massive court intervention"

At the losing side's request. Which still wouldn't have won Gore the election. Which he lost.

"and Republican thuggishness"

Hmmmm yes "Republican thuggishness" somehow made the Gore campaign inept. Great point

"caused the appointment of an illegitimate, unelected president"

You can call him illegitimate and unelected all you like. It's no more true with Bush than with Gregoire. One hundred years from now, when we and everyone we care about are dead, Bush will still have been President and Gregoire will still have been governor. Any laws they signed that haven't been amended or disposed of will still be law. Again, stick your fingers in your ears and do the la la I can't hear you routine, but those are the facts whether you like them or not.
42
Troll darling, I'm not disputing that Bush was indeed President. Or that Christine Gregoire is indeed governor. I think you might be the one with the reality-based issues.

You jump around from the election to 9-11. You say "The NORC study which was sponsored by the AP, NYT, etc. found that the only way that Gore would have won was by using counting methods that were never requested by any party". To me, that seems like a fairly clear statement that there were at least plausible scenarios where Gore might have won, but since that upsets you so much, maybe it's better to leave that one alone.....

You don't understand the difference between voter fraud and election fraud, but that's fairly nuanced, and I know how some people are with nuance.

And to be sure, the ineptitude of the Gore Campaign is a distinctly different thing than Republican thuggishness. Republicans have been thuggish for decades. It's the only way they can win.

You obviously have your own little world, and I'm sure it's a nice one. I suppose you watch television, and go to movies from time to time - just like other people. If I had to choose a word to describe you, it would have to be "plucky". You do your best, and that's about all we can hope for.
43
"To me, that seems like a fairly clear statement that there were at least plausible scenarios where Gore might have won"

Excellent. We've gone from "Gore won" to "there were at least plausible scenarios where gore might have won." That's progress.

"You don't understand the difference between voter fraud and election fraud, but that's fairly nuanced, and I know how some people are with nuance"

Voter fraud engaged in in an organized, systematic fashion it IS election fraud. Since you provided no actual examples of either I assumed that's what you meant, since you're clearly unable to give nuanced examples, or any other kind.

"It's the only way they can win."

Clearly it isn't, since you acknowledge the Gore campaign's ineptitude.

"You obviously have your own little world"

This phrase as typed by you is the quintessential definition of the pot and the kettle.

44
Troll, dear, calm yourself. You're distraught. I can just imagine it: you, in your basement bedroom, pounding on the keyboard, red-faced and frowny, a Rush Limbaugh podcast blaring in the backgrkound while you ctrl+c, ctrl+v, ctrl+c, ctrl+v, muttering to yourself "I'll show that witch!"

It's delightful! Slog just wouldn't be slog without the troll. I'm know I'm not supposed to feed you, but I just can't help myself.
45
Troll = "people who have opinions that are not my own"
46
@32 Rob McKenna looks more like Howdy Doody to me.

Please wait...
