What a bunch of feckless cowards.
2
Sheesh, Dominic, it's "orangutan", not tang! Everyone should be so lucky and proud to be associated with such an adorable and wonderful creature.
3
@2) Tangy! Fixed and thank you.
4
There's nothing wrong with giggling like a maniac at stupid shit when you're high, but you still need to know, especially when you're not high, that it's, ultimately, stupid shit. Otherwise, you, idiot stoner, are your own worst enemy.
5
It's kind of interesting that this is happening so closely on the heels of the whole Rush Limbaugh/Sandra Fluke thing. While I definitely don't think the situations are 100% equivalent for a few reasons (gender difference, different positions in society -- news editor who regularly takes stances on issues vs. private citizen testifying at a single hearing, the issues being discussed, anti-I-502 folks' reach, etc.), the basic "aesthetic" is the same -- instead of actually working to get your own message out in a way reflecting some substance or finding some way to substantively counter your opponent's message, personally attack the opponent instead. The time spent on these graphics could have been spent on ones meant to sell the anti-I-502 message. But perhaps that's too hard. Look for similar stuff to come down the pike when the anti-same sex marriage initiative and referendum campaigns start their fear-mongering.
6
@4, that's just what I thought, too - the sort of thing that seems sooooo clever inside the circlejerk.

That said, I'm a bit dismayed by how often Facebook stuff is winding up posted to Slog. It seems like a mistake.
7
@5 They can use the same graphic for the marriage equality campaign! GENIUS! Look at the gays eat the poo poo!
8
Looks like A. Birch Steen has been spending his vaca on Facebook, sniping from afar. Please bring him back to the fold!
9
These are mature, serious, "medical professionals", naturally.
10
These guys are a walking demonstration of the dangers of too much pot use.

Might as well put drunk frat boys front and center on the later bar hours initiative.
11
We've all been asking to see published, peer-reviewed science to back up their claims... the best they've been able to do is offer some inconclusive reports from 20 years ago. When you realize you don't have a leg to stand on, you stop talking about the issue and fall back on vilifying the people who are cutting to the root of your histrionics.

You're exposing them, and because it's true that they're motivated by their profit margins instead of a genuine interest in moving the state's drug policy in the right direction, they don't have anything else to do but childish name-calling.
13
This is worse than the "patchouli-stained ghetto" brouhaha.
14
this is all being done by pretty much one person....its so insane and slanderish to try and make it seem like its any kind of campaign doing this.
15
lol@Dominic. Way to look at things with an accurate perspective. You found an image on Facebook and are trying to say that is the opposition's whole argument? No, it's a stupid image found on Facebook. You are incredible for even posting it. YOU are the one making it the poster for the opposition, not the opposition. You are doing it on purpose too so you can play the victim and make the opposition look bad by connecting the image to them collectively. An individual made that image, not a group of people representing the opposition against 502. How about you try and find something useful to write about? You've become a device of friction int eh movement nowadays. You could care less about unity or what is best for the long run. You are shortsighted AND petty.
16
There's a huge flaw in your argument, 502 is NOT legalization. At best it is decriminalization.
17
One more comment, this time directed @eclexia: Why would you compare an image found on the personal account of an individual on Facebook to a remark made in an article posted on a public newspaper's blog by one of their writers? Apples and oranges, but nice try. I do wish people used their brains a little more in their attempts to distort the past. Not only that, but that "patchouli-stained ghetto" comment was made in regards to the Hempfest festival. The person who made this image was not Hempfest as far as I can tell after looking at their Facebook and website. I may have missed it, but when did Hempfest take a position on I-502? I went to their website and didn't see anything about that either. Oh, that's right, you don't actually know what you are writing about, you are just posting things that fit your idea of what is happening.
18
@4, FTW. Reminds me of my college years. . .
19
@12: "Dom, has it occurred to you that YOU might be fanning the flames of this fire by simply forwarding their (stupid) posters?"

Well, yeah. This is like poking a slow, slightly brain-damaged badger.

@15: "You found an image on Facebook and are trying to say that is the opposition's whole argument?"

No, he's just enjoying the ventings of someone unhinged.

He's posted his opinions and responses to criticism in plenty of other threads.

@16: "502 is NOT legalization. At best it is decriminalization."

I sincerely doubt you understand the difference between "legalization" and "decriminalization".
20
Whoever is posting the 'Stranger than Fiction' pics online, please STOP IT!! They Do Not Illuminate. That technique, needlessly vilifying the individuals in a debate, turns people away from looking into subject! I'll repeat. Hateful attitude in a debate turns away the public before they can learn what the debate really is. We need the voters to consciously oppose mechanisms of hate and fear tactics, and there you go giving a reason for the people to oppose you and your position. Thank you Dom for debating. So debate this... "The truth is that I- 502 'Panders' to the Public's ingrained and senseless fear of Cannabis, entirely Designed by Corporate Conspirators. This LAW seeks to legitimize a 'Non-Existent harm' and establish the government as our Moral Police... again! Thanks to Vivian McPeak for a diligent voice in the wilderness that reaches past the madness of the 'Popular Bandwagon'!" I am close to believing that the culprit of the Ads is conducting an intentional sabotage of the 'Anti-' crowd, to vilify that side of the debate. You wouldn't do that, would you Dom. I hope not.
21
@20 Holden seems personally invested beyond anything obvious about his argument. To my mind, the provisions for under 21s are enough that they could form a reasonable person's basis for opposition. To cut the 10,000 arrests, some other people are going to get a new set of problems enshrined in law. Your perspective is that they should shut up and take it for the good of the larger number? So, go ahead Holden and call all the people against I-502 dumb poo poo heads, but the way you are doing it is making you look like a self-satisfied jerk.
22
You may not be eating poo, but you sure did suck your own dick in this post.
23
It seems that ridiculous graphics such as these are best ignored and not shared in an even more public manner. Ugh. I share concerns with "the anti-502" crowd, but that doesn't mean that "we" should be lumped in with individuals who believe that these types of antics are acceptable.
24
The Stranger's histrionics have contributed greatly to turning the initiative campaign into a childish circus to those who view it, no matter which way they were leaning to start with.
25
im all for "rimming" and legal cannabis, against i-502 because its illogical in so many ways but will still vote for it because a dui for having inhaled/ingested in the last 2-3days is still better then 1-90days in jail for wanting to...i think...i also agree with DrEon.
26
@15 What is it with pot activists and terrible grammar? Jesus. I like the kind bud as much as the next guy, but I generally don't post pissy, impossible-to-read screeds when I'm high.
27
@20: " So debate this... "The truth is that I- 502 'Panders' to the Public's ingrained and senseless fear of Cannabis, entirely Designed by Corporate Conspirators."

While yes, fear of cannabis was designed by corporate conspirators, it's perpetuated by citizens and public information campaigns have been a lot (but not entirely) preaching to the choir. Plenty of POT-SMOKERS regularly vote down other attempts because of this fearmongering.

"This LAW seeks to legitimize a 'Non-Existent harm' and establish the government as our Moral Police... again!"

I-502 does not "re-establish". It EXISTS already, but this will show the non-existent harm through practice, through legal and responsible use.

It ain't perfect, but it's the best in the pipeline now and in the immediate future. Vote yes on this and vote yes on better plans, if this goes through, vote to reform it ASAP.

News Flash........

Sorry, Dom, you stand corrected:

The No ON i502 Campaign repudiates such tactics and would in no way be affiliated with (or grant interviews with) individuals promoting such trash.

One dumb a$$ picture should not be allowed to discredit a whole movement! Many of us are opposed to I-502 because it will send people to jail for driving while SOBER! Also I 502 does not apply to minors who make up roughly 2.5k of those possession arrests. Also the idea that I-502 will somehow trump Federal law and allow retail sales of recreational cannabis is just ridiculous. All 502 will do is make it illegal for cannabis users to drive and create more DUID arrests.
31
Also I-502 is not the only shot at reform I-1208 will also be on the ballot with out a ridiculous DUID provision.
32
You know,I've been telling them that they need to make good arguments, not hyperbole, but they don't care. yes one person is making it all,but he is being egged on by the rest of the echo chamber.More than one person is distributing them, and once they are out they are part of the public record.Although I support I-502 there are arguments to be made against it.This juvenile dreck just muddies the water and makes real debate impossible. We have to ask "How does this look to the non pot enthusiast ?"
33
as someone who is undecided, and cool with both side if you will. I do have to say that Holden seems to like using vague references of labeling and using "them" and "they". This is mostly ONE DUDE, and while maybe I dont agree with that dude completely and or that degree. However, ive never gotten bashed posting/commenting in regards to those who oppose, including OCCUPY KINGSTON who you should credit for this, versus all those none pro 502 and saying that they are bought. That makes no SENSE, the only BOUGHT possibility would EASILY be NAW, and if you actaully watch some of the youtubes there are some decent quotes etc. Its a bit much for me though, however if it stirs controversy and brings more transparaency as to the PROs an CONs to 502, which obviously hasnt happened much as it shouldve and it seems that those in favor seem to I can understand getting butthurt on what is personifed in regards to another. HOWEVER, if you are going to have the 'balls' to criticize...why not have the fortitude to get SPECIFIC as to WHO your criticizing. If I vote for 502 its begrudgingly, and if I dont its not because I got bought. Its because I am a big boy, who used his thinking cap to come to my own conclusion, jsut like I assume other people also do.
34
What Dom does is make out the recreational "stoners" look even worse than they already are. It is Dominic Holden himself who is promoting this and it is succeeding in turning the general public away from I-502, so keep up the great work! We WILL defeat this horrid initiative, and any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Dom!
35
just legalize. Dom is just lashing back at idiotic comments made about him in the name of an outdated prohibition. Screw all the b.s. The real truth is, we need decriminalization and legalization. We dont need lives ruined over a joint. And I don't care if it effects or ruins the MMJ. Tax the shit out of it and regulate it, control it. What do we have to do to not be considered a criminal for something as ridiculous and HARMLESS (YES I SAID HARMLESS) as recreational or medical use.

Hey Dom, can you provide us with scientific papers and facts saying you're correct? No, you really can't. Take a look at what happened in Colorado when the same 5ng/ml was brought up. It was thrown out. Why, one might ask? Because there was finding to the contrary.

Moreover, DUI doesn't directly apply to you does it? You continue to harp on about the evil-motorists running around Seattle with no regard to bicyclists (hyperbole, a littlle, but I mean take a look at your "OpEd").

This is not legilization, nor is it a good effort; it's decriminlization at best. Anything over an ounce is a felony, and if you can't prove you got it from a WSLCB retailer it's a felony. Automatic DUIs with no defense in court violate our 6th Amendment right, and morever could likely lead to MORE arrests and fines. How does this sound like liberty? Moreover it is NOT regulated like alcohol in the least. I can walk into a liquor store and buy a case of liquor - several bottles in fact - but could I buy several ounces? No.

What you're trying to shove down our throat is not the answer.

Yours truly,

-A Concerned Citizen Who Looks at the Facts

Nice job Dominic!!
By the way didn't Gil the carpetbagger go back to his own state - somewhere in the middle of the country?

As a director of No on I-502 I can unequivocally state that no one in our organization is connected with this type of smear campaign, and we strongly denounce the smear tactics used by D.H. and NAW to stigmatize anyone who does not agree with them. No on I-502 concentrates on the facts: the fact that I-502's zero tolerance provision will be devastating on any minor who uses marijuana and attempts to drive, even days later, that the 5 nanograms per milliliter "standard" is unsupported by any hard evidence that THC is responsible for actual impairment, the fact that the DUI provisions of I-502 will usher in a new era of the drug war based upon the elevated penalties for DUI that exceed those for simple possession, and the fact that due to the three (3) 25% taxes imposed by I-502 in addition to the sales tax, prices will stay the same or even go up if it passes. Oh, and the fact that I-502 is about control, not legalization, and that possession of your own pot and private plants and their use will still be a crime unless the state run cartel gets its cut of the action. The facts about I-502 are that it increases the potential penalties for the ordinary moderate user who drives, that it does nothing to "legalize" private marijuana or decrease the market price, and that it very well may result in a crackdown on users under color of the more politically defensible (and draconian) DUI standard that I-502 would create. In the face of all these facts, what does D.H. report about? Some pictures of a silly primate that were probably posted by some of his deranged associates so he could claim that he was being smeared the same way he and his buddies at NAW have attempted to smear anyone who opposes their new age storm trooper type pro 502 weltanschauung (Weltedschlong?). Look for more Orang-utans and absolutely no real facts in the Stranger's reporting about I-502. P.S. The orang-utans should ask for a retraction for being compared to D.H.

Please wait...
