1. Repost,

2. Shut up you whiny fuck
2
I like the cut of his jib. He must have a titanium skull, however.

Shush @1, the video's only a year old, only 5 million views registered on YouTube. Spring fresh, in a way. Plus Golob is a very busy doctor, imagine if he'd been reading Slog last year instead of saving lives. "Oh, doctor, if only you hadn't been so busy keeping up with Goldy's posts last June I might not be in this iron lung."

6
pretty sure I saw this video or one extremely similar in 2008
7
Douche. He should be ticketed, multiple times, for damage to property. And forced to pay restitution. There are non-flat-on-the-ground-concrete objects on the sidewalk: I advise going around them. There are cars stopped on highway in front of you: I recommend stopping behind them (before you hit them). There's shit in the bike lane: continue riding directly into it. And, c'mon, it's NYfuckingC! To be able to navigate anywhere is evidence of god and present day miracles.
8
@7 I believe you missed the point, he got a ticket _for_ going around something in the bike lane! This video is a response to that ticket...
10
Only people in Seattle would care about this. You're all pathetic.
11
Man, I don't care how old this video gets, I will always love it.
12
@8 Not really. It's just that the correct if inconvenient response is to fight the ticket and continue to do the right thing - not to be a douche.
13
@10 - I believe the fact it was made in New York negates your argument.
14
Hmmm. So, if I were to follow this gentleman's 'logic' the next time I'm driving down the road and there's a delivery truck blocking my lane, I should just run into it.

Yeah, totally convincing act.

And bicyclists wonder why they're so popular.

LMFAO.
15
I have figured it a coincidence for the past few months but after this video there is no denying that you guys are simply watching reddit.com for video content. Every time a video that relates to our Seattle sensibilities gets to the frontpage of reddit it shows up here within hours. Im not even mad,it's just so lame.
16
@9 I hope you're joking. It is not illegal to bike in the street - the cop was full of crap.

@12 Yes, please make him pay restitution for the scratch on that garbage can - jesus.
17
I've been a cyclist for 27 years, since I was 14, when I put up with all kinds of bullshit seemingly being the sole spandex-clad 14 year-old on the east coast. This guy is an asshole. Cyclists have is sooo good now, they've devolved into a bunch of pansy-asses wusses. Grow up, stop complaining, and watch out for cars and shit in the way.
18
Anyone who says hipsters don't know how it feels to be black needs to watch this powerful, touching video.
19
I didn't watch the video because I've seen one of these before. And the previous one was probably done better.

NYC cops can be dicks, no doubt about that. So can NYC motorists. However, cyclists are the fucking worst. The worst. I would say most of the times that I've nearly escaped death in this city it's been dodging bikes and I see about 1000x more cars than I do bikes. So, working out the numbers the cyclists come out dicks.
Furthermore, cycling lanes are so cyclists have it easier but on a city street when someone pulls over they pull over - bike lane or no. NYC streets don't exactly have copious space to allow for bike lanes and delivery trucks and thru-traffic. And since I see tons of cyclists decide this means they get to ride on the sidewalk (blantantly illegal and super, super, super dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians alike) I have no sympathy for douchebag cyclists.
20
The world's tiniest violin. This guy isn't even worth it.
21
The cop car parked in the bike lane does really bring it all home. The idea that cyclists are supposed to know the law better than the police is fairly outrageous.

And also, everybody get off of @17's lawn!
22
If the internet was a race, there would be weeds growing up through the track, and the judges would be skeletons waiting for Dr. Golob to finish.
23
The comments on this post are very tedious.
24
Any and all you righteous dickheads trashing cyclists have zero appreciation for how different it is to be on a bike than in a car. Un-be-FUCKING-lievable. Shame on you Seattle-haters who trash cyclists. And to those cyclist machismos, F u 2 for thinking anyone not like you is a pussy.
25
Fuck all you drivers and fuck you people on bikes and you people walking around on your feet, fuck you too! And you guys on pogo sticks go get fucked and so should the guys on big wheels and you over there on the hangglider, fuck you too! Everybody is wrong! Fuck!
26
This video is old as fuck. Definitely more than a year, though it may have been reposted a year ago.
27
Make the cop get out of the car to write you your ticket, just like he does for a car. I would stay on the bike in front of him! Make him come to you in the rain.
28
There were no bike lanes in my town when my oldest got a job at the local card-n-collectables shop. He would regularly get hassled by the local police; if he was on the street they would tell him he was supposed to be on the sidewalk, if he was on the sidewalk he was supposed to be in the street.

He eventually went to a City Counsel meeting & discussed getting stop 8-9 times each time being told he was required to do the opposite. It was hashed out that the law required him to be in the street & the PD would be reminded of that.

29
This looks like an audition tape for stunt-double work. Has he found any? Does he hire out for kids' parties?
30
@19

Cool. That's why drivers kill hundreds of people a year in this city, and cyclists....
31
Watching that guy run into things on his bike without a helmet on is incredibly entertaining. I want hours and hours of this footage.
32
@30

. . .and cyclists. . .get themselves killed by acting like stupid fucking assholes.
33
@32: Yeah, like Mike Wang last summer, who stupidly rode in the bike lane and got himself killed by a surely blameless hit-and-run driver. Please, please, tell his kids what a stupid asshole their dead dad was.
34
This kind of video is helpful because it highlights the way transport infrastructure has placed the right to safe movement for automobiles in the "essential" category, but for cyclists, it's in the "optional" category.

As for dicks on bikes, there is one particular type, (the "should" cyclist), which I shall describe for you;
1. wears lycra
2. follows the road rules even when following the road rules puts him (yes, usually a him) at risk, because even though he knows he's not safe, in his head the fact that he "should" be safe (if all cars do the right thing), trumps the fact that he isn't safe.
3. Would rather get hit by a car while following the road rules and sue the driver, than walk / ride slowly on the footpath to avoid a dangerous situation where he "should" be able to ride safely, but for whatever reason cannot.
35
F U @ 32. You are a cold, heartless jerkoff with no clue what it's like to ride. And, "you're welcome" for all cyclists efforts at creating a cleaner world.

How can you live with being such an incredibly douche-y Rebublican redneck car-loving, heartless jerk?

Shame to all get out on you!!!!
36
@33 and @35,

Obviously there are cases (lotsof them) of safe cyclists being harmed by unsafe drivers. Also lots of example of UNsafe cyclists who get themselves killed out of sheer dumbassery. Don't pretend they don't exist, and don't make the douche in this video your poster boyb for anything sane.
37
Oh ~ big D democrat - and cyclist here, by the way.
38
Figures you're a democrat with a "big D". Clinton/Obama dems like you generalize, cop out, sell out and make assumptions that are conservative, oh-so Amerikkkan and absurd.

Just because there are some careless riders doesn't mean they 'get themselves killed'. It's more complicated AND more fundamental than that (even now, even here, we build our environment to autos, not transit, peds and bikes).

Fortunately things are changing.

Folks like you will whine all the way through the social change that is occurring now. Bikes are gaining clout, power and space -at the expense of autos and the old guard that just never, ever gets it. Change is so often good. The change now? Autos must make way for and give some of their "rights" to bikes, especially because bikes are better and/but more vulnerable.

Sorry to be such a dumbass. Puh-lease, you read too many moron posts on SLOG and eslewhere. You don't need to be part of that immature BS. Grow up, please.
39
@38,

Am suddenly struck with an overwhelming feeling of not giving a fuck about living up to your expectations.
40
Just Jeff ("just", indeed)- I hate to burst the ego bubble you live in but here are just two of the recent Pac NW bike fatalities:

TRI-CITY HERALD
PROSSER, Wash. — Jared Carr, 30, of Walla Walla died early Sunday on the Old Inland Highway east of Prosser when he was struck by a car while riding a bicycle.

The driver, David Godinez, 19, of Prosser told sheriff’s deputies he swerved to avoid what he believed was a skunk, then lost control of the eastbound car, striking Carr, two telephone poles and several poplar trees near Peaceful PR Road.

AND

PORTLAND, Ore. – A bicyclist was hit by a semi trailer in downtown Portland Wednesday night and later died from her injuries, police said.

Police identified the woman as 28-year-old Kathryn Leah Rickson. Investigators had originally reported she was 29, but later corrected her age.

Portland Police said Rickson was riding her bike eastbound on SW Madison when the truck made a right hand turn onto 3rd Avenue and hit her. The crash took place at about 8:30 p.m.

Witnesses said she was in the bike lane when she was struck by the front right corner of the trailer.

There are plenty of other horribly tragic cyclist deaths where THE FACTS beg to differ with your assinine assertions about cyclists that "get themselves killed by acting like stupid fucking assholes."

I guess I just hoped you might apologize for being such an insensitive tool but, hey, in this day and age, I realize everyone's too big (read: small) to simply apologize for being sensational, stupid and or just absurdly insensitive. Including you.

Nice one. I hope you're oh so proud, F-wad.
41
For those of us who actually knew Jared Carr, he was anything but careless. Down to the detail I am sure he was prepared for that bike ride. That's just the way he went about life. So, a little respect. Thanks!

Please wait...
