Where are the Snowdons of yesteryear?

There was at least one chapter that got cut from the novel that I've read. I think it might be in this book, which is probably in the library:

I seem to recall that it was kind of a flashback to Yossarian's time in basic training, which is probably why it got cut. It's worth reading if you can find it.

I still need to read Catch-22. I got hung up early in Gravity's Rainbow and I haven't read anything about WW2 since.
