@5 As someone who opened multiple restaurants in over a decade, I can assure you that 90% of waiters do not share tips with kitchen staff. In fact, in franchised/corporate companies, the stat is almost 0%, with the exception of sushi restaurants, where the skill of the head chef is considered to be more important than in other settings.

@5

90% of servers DO NOT tip out the kitchen staff. In fact, it's illegal in most areas to do so. Servers make a wage of $2.13 an hour (sometimes a bit more depending on the state), while kitchen staff makes at least minimum wage. Tipping out is reserved for busboys, food runners, bartenders, etc. I've worked in restaurants for over 12 years, and I promise you, if you're tipping out the kitchen staff, you need to find a good labor attorney.

To all you cheap *uckers who don't tip, make your coffee at home. Don't try to come in, act like you're our friends and then NOT put your 14 cents in the tip jar after we make you a 20 oz latte. How in the hell do you even drink that much milk? Don't say I'd like "my usual", because I only remember the drinks of people who DO tip. When we say good morning, that doesn't mean I want to know what you want to drink. If you can't take part in what the social norm in this country dictates, I don't want to see your sour ass face in my shop.

And yes, there should be tip jars at McDonalds. If you don't want to tip them, make your own food. Quit bein' so *ucking cheap...
