Anyone else think that W. has had a serious relapse and isn't doing any appearances because they can't sober him up?
2
i prefer to believe it's because he can't hide his shame any longer.
3
He's clearing brush.

I find this wording very interesting: "they were unsure whether former president Bush would appear at the lunchtime event at his home, or at a separate finance event with Romney later that evening at a Dallas hotel."

The phrasing seems designed to suggest that he will appear *either* at one fundraiser *or* the other, but the wording does not eliminate the possiblity that he will appear at *neither* Ann's fundraiser *nor* Mitt's.

Things are pretty bad when even W is avoiding you.
5
Do the Romneys not have their own home in Texas at which to host a fundraiser? Poor things. Life is so hard for them.
6
@1 I was thinking the same thing.
7
Paul,
American embassies are under siege in the Near East:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/15/world/…

and you're making light of a Romney fundraising event that W. Bush "probably" won't make? Huh? Hate him or like him, W. is "old hat". This fundraising story isn't funny or relevant.
8
@7 Because all other stories become non-news when something serious happens! It is wrong to talk about ANYTHING other than the MOST RELEVANT STORY that you have decided is important.

As to the story, for some reason whenever Bush misses an event (Like the RNC) I just imagine him sitting in an attic somewhere with army men and a bottle of whiskey reliving his glory days.
9
He'll be at the Romney's, euthanizing Rafalca.
10
My gawd, how full can his calendar be? Former president, financially stable, isn't running (like, actually involved in day-to-day operations) any sort of great and giving charity such as Habitat for Humanity.

I'm going with the same answers others gave: He sits around moping and drinking all day. What a shit. What a terrible, terrible shit.
11
@7 Come on, Lark, stop with the concern trolling. There's plenty to talk about today and the anti-American protests are getting plenty of coverage.

Bush has, for the most part, aggressively avoided the public eye since leaving office. I'm sure even his dumb ass has to be aware of how universally reviled he's become. Yeah, I'd fall off the wagon too.
12
Maybe they can hold a magic underwear party.
13
If the Christopher Nolan Batman movies are, in fact, a thinly-veiled metaphor for the Bush administration, Bush will be watching the fundraiser from where he has secluded himself in a distant suite, until someone purported to be with the help sneaks in and steals Barbara Bush's pearl necklace.
14
Maybe Bush is like me and doesn't want to eat with people who would require you to actually use the salad fork for just salad, overly large main dish fork for the small main dish, and extra small fork just for the extra small dessert portions.

Just let me use the one medium size fork for all of the three course meal. And don't get me started on the spoons. Those extra large round soup spoons drive me crazy.
15
Keep the term "Soup Spoon" out yo' mouth. I love those things.
16
@14- You wanna eat soup with a teaspoon? Fuck that noise. Get rid of all the other spoons and keep the good big one.
17
Nobody wants to be reminded of W. Not even W.
18
W is like the Mariners' long line of busted prospects. Half of the fan base had huge expectations for the guy, he simply didn't have the talent to deliver as hoped and ultimately the Mariners lost a lot of games.
Those scouting reports sure are wrong a lot of the time.
19
Whether this is because W doesn't want to be associated with Romney or Romney doesn't want to be associated with W -- and I can't imagine anyone with a thought for human Americans wanting to be associated with either -- it sure doesn't say much for the GOP of the 21st century.

And I noticed that the clip didn't say whether Laura Bush would around, either.

Please wait...

and remember to be decent to everyone
all of the time.
