Also, the Seattle Times reports the RGA has donated $5.2 million to the campaign in support of the homophobic candidate for governor here. Look at the PDC reports and ad buys, and it looks more like double, or $10.4 million.

Oh god, tv is going to really suck for the next few weeks.

...and then maybe everything in general after that.

The initiative process, so great in theory, has become so corrupt that it's disheartening. Basically, at this point, you don't even have to live in Washington - hell, in America - to buy a Washington State law.

And why all this money against gay marriage? How does it even affect somebody's bottom line? You don't spend that much money unless there's something in it for you.
4
@3 - Some people make a very nice living preying on the fears of simple, church-going folks.
6
I'm ashamed of KING TV for accepting their money. Do they really think it is OK to profit off of misleading lies about our community?
7
@6: Dont blame KING or any other broadcast media outlet. FCC requires them to sell to any political campaign that wants to buy.
8
Who fucking cares?

This is where Washington United for Marriage is going to have to prove that they're willing to fight back. Their "focus group" approved commercials are nice but they are not going to cut it against the vile shit that these bigots are going to throw at them. Playing nice and apologist won't work. I've been donating regularly for the past several months and I'll be pissed for wasting all that money if Washington United for Marriage blows it like California did.
10
Bigots suck. What's it to them? As long as they feel they are right with Jesus, what the fuck do they care about others? How the hell can someone's marriage be good or bad for their own? It makes no goddamned sense.
11
Washington United For Marriage needs to send me the Approve 74 sign I paid for a few weeks ago. Apparently they're backordered and unsure of when they're getting more. Not good with less than two months before election day.
12
Christians acting dishonest and underhanded in order to preserve and promote discrimination and hatred? Unprecedented! I'm shocked.
13
Saw one at the HRC dinner and they using same commercial they used in CA. More technical than loving. WA won't buy that.
14
That's it - I am not watching anything for the next 2 months that isn't DVR'd
15
How about putting all campaign contributions in escrow until the state verifies that the contributions are made in accordance with state law?

Excuse me, but this is a surprise?
18
Thank goodness that we have an Attorney General who will surely get to the bottom of this!
19
So the money will not become official until it is too late to accurately determine where it is coming from? More scumbag tacticts from the opponents of equality, imagine that.
20
The reactionaries are all about law-and-order, except when it comes to their own conduct. Then, it's all about whatever works.

WHAAAAAAA!

WHAA WHAAAA WHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

More big-money ads coming this time from I-1240 for charter schools. They, too, have reserved major ad time to give voters a pitch that:

-charters work (they don't in any major way),
- that they will help at-risk students (no such mandate exists in the initiative) and it won't cost you a thing (
-(the new charter commission will cost $3M itself AND schools and district will lose a lot of money from loss of students and loss of levy money).

But Bill Gates and the WalMart heiress in Arkansas and the head of Netflicks in LA and the Bezos have deep pockets. In fact, six families, all connect with Microsoft and Amazon, comprise the majority of money donated to the Yes campaign.

The key to these ads? Take them with a grain of salt. (Of course, this also begs the question of who really watches tv ads anymore.)
23
I think WUM needs to be preemptive with their ads. They know the haters will be telling lies about kids being "taught homosexuality" in school, so they need to come out first, calling out the lie before the haters get a chance to release it.
24
How can they reserve $1.5 million of air time without putting up the money? If they have put up the money, that means they do, in fact, have a contribution commitment, which must be reported. But as of their filing yesterday, they have not reported any such sums. Either Mr. Holden is mistaken and there is no actual reservation of airtime or Preserve Marriage Washington is blatantly flouting the campaign finance laws of WA.
