Now substitute the word "senior care facilities" for "prison."
2
Gubermint BAAAAAAD. Free markets GOOOOOOD!
3
So the private prisons cost millions of dollars more than the government prisons.
Follow the money.
Who is taking in those millions of dollars?
Which political campaigns are they donating to?
I'm sure you'll find a link.
4
What a fucking mess.
5
Brendan, would you mind linking to the cost study about the private prison costing the state 3.5 million? Didn't see it in the links you posted but I'd like to take a loot at it.
6
But... but... but... what about all the benefits of the efficient invisible-hand of the Free Market?
7
@ 5. Sure thing. It's linked in the main post now.
8
Why do you expect them to treat employees they pay 47 cents an hour well?

Wonder where all your jobs went?

They're in prison.
9
remember, the jailers are also in prison.
10
It's like an episode of Oz.

@3 Bingo. This is the real reason behind privatization and union-busting.

There's a big pile of cash (tax revenue) being managed by fucking morons (state reps). Why should we be surprised when the wolves (connected rich folk) show up and leave a mangled carcass (us) behind?

@7. Thanks!

@11- The private prisons are usually unionized. Creating more union jobs (thanks to the guaranteed occupancy) is one of the selling points of private prison expansion.
14
@13 - I don't think so

According to Corrections Corporation of America's own propaganda, only 7% of their workforce is unionized - http://www.ccacommunities.com/static/ass…

@14- Thanks for the correction. I probably got that impression from an isolated case or something.

Please wait...
