I'm a little uncomfortable with how you've essentialized White & Black America, Charles. But you're expecting that so we won't dwell.

I've always thought that the Black vote can be explained as a kind of tribalism. The GOP--and yes especially the White GOP--hasn't offered a lot to Black Americans to make tribal membership attractive.

@1 I think both you and Mudede are over-complicating this...

For the most part, black voters have not moved on from their voting habits from the Civil Rights Act of 1964, because the Republicans are still fighting against it.

Obama is a great man and a great president. If black people are filled with admiration, and yes, love for him and our lovely first lady, than good on them. I know how they feel.

Rmoney is using code words.

Code words that say fill the jails with the people we don't like so they can work for 44 cents an hour.

Luckily, young people mostly don't get those code words, unless they're really gullible.

There is no way the religious moral superiority that the right exudes is more than the moral superiority that the left enjoys. The default view of the GOP is just a bunch of racist, women-hating, good-old-boys. Which is what #2 is doing and is certainly more indicative of why blacks vote D.

And Lewinski is a terrible example for your side of the argument. Cheating on your spouse is very clearly not a moral thing to do. People who live in small houses and large houses would generally agree on that.

@5 "The default view of the GOP is just a bunch of racist, women-hating, good-old-boys."

No. That does not accurately describe the GOP membership.

The GOP has a strong contingent of racist misogynists; the rest party membership is merely willing to give those assholes a big platform and legislative lever in return for other considerations like low tax rates and no regulations or consumer protections.

"White Americans, particularly those on the right of the political spectrum, love to throw stones."

Yea, because African-Americans as a whole, and black preachers especially, just love the gays. They know about oppression and discrimination, so support all equal rights legislation.

Whites are so racist! And blacks are so wise!

Charles, you shouldn't have used the word "universal" when characterizing the black vote. there are blacks who are not voting for obama (black agenda report editors). and here is one explanation of why: http://blackagendareport.com/content/why…

6, Oh, so the rest of the GOP isn't actually racist, they're just going to stand aside and let the racist GOPers have their way in return for getting their own back $cratched?

Yep, you're right, nothing at all racist with doing nothing amongst your own cohorts and silently allowing racism to damage people's lives. Nope. Not racist at all.

Good Evening Charles,
The history you cite on how African Americans came to vote Democrat as an aggregate is accurate. I believe I mentioned in a posting weeks ago the same tectonic shift from Republican to Democrat of the African American vote roughly the 30s to the 60s..

However, I don't believe the Monica Lewinsky scandal has much if anything to do with African American support for Clinton and the Democratic Party. I think the simplicity angle is far more plausible.

Clearly, African Americans support Obama but there data to suggest they haven't fared better under his Administration.

What typical Seattle "progressive" smug bullshit.

Please wait...
