Wait, no, a spokesman for Boehner just said that they remain 100% committed to repealing it. Shades of Romney.
2
@1 "Shades of Romney."

Orange?
3
In a private meeting later Jim Boehner was quoted as saying,

"I don't understand why our approval rating in Congress/House of Reps is so low. It just doesn't make any sense!"
4
That old Schoolhouse Rock jingle missed Steps 3 through 7.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Hahaha, Charles, Boehner already walked it back on twitter.

The conservative grasp of reality has redshifted. Literally, not just metaphorically.

"In physics (especially astrophysics), redshift happens when light seen coming from an object that is moving away is proportionally increased in wavelength, or shifted to the red end of the spectrum."

which step is obama on re:DOMA?

In other developments, Boehner is open to discussing tax increases ... as long as they come in the form of lower tax rates and magical economic growth.

Not sure if Mitch McConnell has tipped his hand yet, but his wife Elaine Chao was on a post-election panel as was geared up to negotiate the fiscal cliff as if their side had just won the election.
9
@8 Boehner is open to Obama's next round of bipartisan cooperation in exactly the same way he was to the first round. Not. At. All. No matter how he says what he says. No point in even hoping for better from those trogs or the troops they command.
10
@8: Huh. I guess power really is an aphrodisiac. Either that, or Mitch "Yertle the Turtle" McConnell sits around licking his eyebrows.
11
A political leader can't be caught saying "we lost" or "we were wrong". He knows that he lost, that he was wrong, and that he's going to have to yield to the other side. But to his team, he still has to pretend he's carrying the flag to the enemy.

How soon before they start issuing warrants for all the independent barristas who aren't paying $200 a month for their national health identity card?
13
@12: John, your concern for the barristas is touching.

I have some good news for you. If a barrista's salary is high enough that they are required to pay the tax, yet they don't, there are no warrants, arrests, debtor's prison, or anything like that. The penalty is financial - 0.5% monthly to be exact - which comes to $12 per year. So that should come as a big relief to you!

More good news - whether or not they pay that tax, they get health insurance!
14
Hey, maybe the republican states would accept health insurance ID for voting.

(Sarcastic thought of the day)

15
@13: It's gay. Concern is touching.

Please wait...
