Deepest condolences to Rev. Warren for having to go through the kind of loss that the families of LBGT individuals have experienced in part because of the contributions his own words have made to the despair that queer children have felt for years.

With regard to the oil droplets thingy, I'm going to guess that while they transmit electrical impulses, they don't actually repeat them, causing them to rapidly attenuate. Gonna read the article now.
Welp, turns out they actually do have ion gates to allow movement of ions across the membrane, much the same way living cells do, so they will repeat the signal. (They've basically made cells consisting only of cytosol and membrane, really. A good first step.) Unfortunately, without any way to maintain membrane potential (which in living cells uses ATP to pump ions across the membrane), they'll only be good for a couple pulses at most, which limits their utility.

It's a pretty fantastic basis for further research, though. Imagine artificial cells filled with proteins and mitochondria and maybe even some mRNA and ribosomes (but no nuclear DNA, thereby limiting their lifespan and stopping them from reproducing) deposited into damaged tissue to stand in for new cells until they fill the gap. Sort of like a spare tire.

@5: And maybe these artificial cells could somehow "fool out" cancer growth?
7
@6: Not sure what you mean by that. At the very least, they'd be unable to go cancerous without nuclear DNA. Though building an artificial cell like that would take some serious engineering, and they'd be short-lived.

Hulu has one of the best quality TV series running right now...Endgame. It was made in 2011, by the Canadian cable network Showcase.

The series is filmed in Vancouver, BC...and guess what, it actually takes place in Vancouver, BC (when does that ever happen)!

The general plot is that a Russian chess master and world champion, Arkady Balagan, has just witnessed his girlfriend murdered outside the hotel in which he is staying. To find her killer, he becomes a hermit inside his penthouse suite. Along the way because he uses his chess strategizing skills to envision crime scenarios he is employed as a sleuth by other parties each episode. He is a completely dissolute, mocking genius. Numb3rs + House = 21st century Sherlock Holmes.

Anyway, if you want to see such as thing, here it is:

The sad part is that as good as it is, they only made 13 episodes and could not bring it back. If Hulu gets bought, they should produce shows like this the way Netflix is doing with House of Cards.

@8 - So does WD-40, which is actually just fish oil.
11
No it's not.
12
WD-40 is not fish oil. It's mostly a volatile organic solvent with a little mineral oil.

Please wait...
