This is wonderful. It makes me feel like grandpa simpson to say, but the 3D movies just give me a headache and it never seems to "work" anyway - the move to 3D has definitely (if subtly) caused me to go out to less movies. I'll be sure to keep Tuesdays at Cinerama in mind now!

Only good 3D movie I've seen is Harold and Kumar's 3D Christmas :)

Really I'm hoping its a fad that will go away.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe that the 'majestic bay theater' in ballard ALWAYS shows films in 2D and never shown a film in 3D.

@2: I won't watch 3D movies, so I saw Harold & Kumar in 2D on Blu-Ray. I can honestly say it's the only movie I've EVER regretted that decision. Though I was still able to laugh at all the ways they used 3D to their ridiculous advantage.

This is great news. I love the Cinerama. I agree with Paul that most 3D films are shit. Or at least the 3D effects are shit and don't add anything to the viewing experience. There are a few exceptions, but most of the time it just gives me a headache and makes the movie too dim.

Fuck that.

Good on you, Cinerama!

Best theater in town, hands down.

@3: Yes, but in all other respects the Cinerama kicks the shit out of the Bay. What's your point? Do you have a stake in the Bay or something?
8
@7 ..yeah.. i own the 'bay' dontcha know..my point is that there are other theaters that regularly show films in 2D if @1 doesn't see movies regularly because of their 3D bias , they should know they there are alternatives.. besides what if you wanna see a 2D release on a saturday night with the kids.. or something.

It is so true that most 3D movies are utter gimmick and not worth all the extra gear. However when used properly the 3D thing can be really cool. Two movies I liked in 3D were Coraline and Pina. Toy Story in 3D made me feel ill like my seat was way too close to the screen. 3D really needs too be used as an enhancement to a good story, nobody goes just to see the 3D.

Can't a guy like the Bay and the Cinerama too?
11
@10 no, this is the internet. Pick a side.

Regarding the 2D Tuesday news, I just want to say THANK GOD. I hope it's successful and they end up adding a 2D day on the weekend. Or maybe just coming to the realization that 3D is a stupid gimmick that might have the potential to make a movie marginally better if it's done exceedingly well (and it never is), but is also a huge distraction and usually a net negative. I saw Prometheus in 3D at Cinerama and it was bearable and even kind of cool in a technical sense, but I just would have preferred watching a plain old movie. Also, having to line up and be issued plastic glasses and/or deposit them in a bin at the end of the movie somehow makes me feel like I'm in 3rd grade.

The 3D glasses had a tint that made Leonardo DiCaprio's pink suit look white in the Great Gatsby. Maybe that's a small thing, but if all the colors looks wrong, because I'm wearing sunglasses at the movies, the 3D effect is diminished.

Please wait...
