Fucking Texas
2
Not everybody gets to become a man *and* a Pussycat Doll on the same day. This is so sweet and so painful to watch.
3
Made me laugh and cheer! Thank you. Mazel tov, Sam!
4
LMFAO

Kid has weird parents, though.

(Oh, never mind. I'm just jealous.)
5
I was all getting ready to mock the ridiculous excesses of an over-the-top bar mitzvah... but I can't really get mad at the kid's obvious joy.

Dance on, princess sparkle pony.
6
nothing like using your stereotypical jewish riches on a religious rite for a clearly gay son who would be cast to hell by his creator

what is this i dont even
7
I was prepared to not like this, as an example of entitled excess .... but that kid was just so damned happy, and had obviously worked hard on his routine. Mazel tov, Sam.
8
SAM is a big raging homo
9
I’m with everyone else on this .. you go Sam! Mazel-tov x 100!
10
Well, I started out at @6 with a dash of @1, but wound up in agreement with @5 and @7. It is truly insane excess, but what the heck...clear joy.
11
Hey, knock it off with all the homo remarks already. The kid is still just a kid, albeit a fairly exuberant one.

Not sure whether this supports or negates my point, but here's the companion piece.

needed to listen to some Fugazi to wash that out of my brain.
13
i can only imagine what his bris was like
14
Oy vay, gay, but in such a good way.
15
@6: Nice trolling, but Jews don't have hell.
16
Good for him!
17
I hope they did the awkward reading of the Torah earlier.
18
Why couldn't he just have become a fountain pen, like all the other nice Jewish boys? Of course, in this case, he would have been a limited edition Mont Blanc, but still.
19
@17 - More like the fabulous reading of the Torah. With confetti cannons.
20
It is seriously excessive, he just looks like a rich Jewish kid who may or may not be gay. He might look gay from the perspective of Kent High School, but from a big city like Dallas, not so much. Anyway who cares.
21
I hope he worked as hard on his Haftorah as he did on the dance routine.
22
The only disgusting thing about this is the ruling class mentality of the parents
23
@20 - Whether he's gay or not, it's reassuring to know we now live in a world where a 13-year-old boy with such stereotypically non-masculine behaviors and traits can not only publicly revel in what he loves, but have it produced and catered by his parents with their implicit approval.
24
@22 Oh, please. I don't think you have any idea what "ruling class" even means.
25
@13 thank you for that.
26
What's the problem? You hire some strippers to make a man of the kid. The classics really DO always come back!
27
Behind the Menorah.
28
@26: Or you give him the unrated Blu-Ray of Magic Mike so that he may self-actualize.
29
The exuberant hubris of the disgustingly wealthy (a class above the common 'filthy rich') - there's something vaguely "Hunger Games" about this.

A little more background on Sam:

http://www.jta.org/2013/08/13/arts-enter…

Unsurprisingly, it turns out he wants to be a performer. He's already been on a PBS kids' show and done a few commercials. He even has an agent, of course.

@29 This has nothing to do with being disgustingly wealthy. It's just a bit of upper-middle-class overindulgence. By contrast, the disgustingly wealthy just accumulate wealth, or spend it more quietly. To do something like this, Sam's parents most probably have an income of at least $250/K year, which is nothing to sneeze at, but it's hardly CEO class, or hedge-fund Romney stuff, let alone multi-generational Bush-like money, all of whom make at least 20 times that.
31
Omigod the detail that gets me is the giant SAM in lights background. I wish I'd had half this much confidence at 13.
32
Mazels bubbey, mazels.
33
@13: Ha!

Please wait...
