The dogs spread the bugs on their paws. It's stupid to wander around one apartment after another when there are bed bugs. Instead, each apartment should have a pair of paper shoe covers that can be kept in a tightly closed bag and worn by inspectors. Inspectors should take samples from furniture for bed bug DNA. I swear, the dog they used spread the infestation in my building.

I enjoy thrifting but it's not like sex. It ranks closer to leaving your lawn clippings to mulch instead of bagging them up. Satisfying, but I could give it up.

Thanks for posting this update. Also, @1 bedbugs rarely hitchhike on dogs. Though it's technically possible, it's more likely that they were moving on pipes or wires in the walls.

Oh god. I need to stop reading library books in bed, don't I?
5
Haven't there been reports of bedbug infestations in department stores? It doesn't seem like anywhere is truly safe.

I have to stop reading bedbug articles. As I'm reading I keep jumping because I keep thinking I feel one crawling on me!

Damn it! There it goes again!

@4: I quit borrowing/reading library books years ago, except for those on the new-arrivals shelves, when i realized HOW MANY HUMAN PIGS pick their noses while reading borrowed books and wipe the boogers in between pages.

Fuck those people. I vomit and shit in your general direction.

My husband, who travels a lot, is truly freaked out by this. He is twitching and proclaiming to any one who will listen, the glory that is DDT.
" I want my DDT! Just spray the apartment! It's not like we have any eagles in here! JUST SPRAY TNE APARTMENT!!!"

I need to get a drink into him.

@8, Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel did advertising work back in the 1930's and 40's. Here's one your hubby will like:"Improved with DDT!"

Main article.

Oh rob! That is so fabulous, thank you!

One thing to remember for people swearing off thrift shops: Bed bugs can live in any environment. They are not attracted or predisposed to live in dirtier areas. As a manager of maintenance for a while at a Hotel, I was required to take an entire class on bed bugs when they started becoming a problem in other cities and that's one of the first myths that was punctured at the class. So, go ahead... swear off thrift shops, just remember that doesn't necessarily mean that you can't get bed bugs.
