Publicola's reporting an $18K ad spend by one of the Mayor's PACs, so that will help get this on the air. (They're also reporting that Murray may have hired a bigtime speech coach.) http://www.seattlemet.com/news-and-profi…
Why should I listen to his daughter? She's basically just reading a press release, bringing no perspective of her own into it. Why should I care what she says?
Murray and McBeardo are both married to Asian folks - that is nice but this ad feels manipulative. Kids don't vote and saying this is "about the kids" is just so far from true. I am so over this race - and have been for months.
Like the GMO labeling crap, this is pretty much already decided. Unless Murray beats up and shits directly on a special-needs child in the middle of downtown, nothing is going to change the outcome of this race. Sure, McGinn should continue to run ads, but do we really need to dissect every word the candidates say for the next month?
@11
"...do we really need to dissect every word the candidates say for the next month?"
The Authors of Slog are desperate to hear themselves dissect. They'll dissect the puny amygdalas of Goldie and Paul Constant if it can garner readership among us fools.
@11, Slog's been paying less attention to mayor's race whatnot the last couple weeks. There may be an upswing when the TV debates loom - especially since McGinn's likely to wipe the floor with Murray on those - but on the whole I doubt there'll be so many posts they become a bother.
If political candidates use their children and spouses to advance their agenda, those children and spouses are fair game for criticism. This strikes me as a selfish move by Mayor McGinn.
The difference between New York and Seattle politics is that Dante de Blasio uses the subjunctive correctly, while Miyo McGinn does not.
Meanwhile, Murray announced this morning that he wants to "take a second look" at the already-one-thousand-times-looked-over Burke-Gilman Missing Link.
Generally, only the assholes at the Stranger take advantage of children (Savage's shameless harvesting of his child, dickwad writers speculating on children). Now McGinn, the stepchild of the Tim Keck subculture that gave us the Monorail and other fiascos, is borrowing a page from the last page of a dying rag. Yeech.
I've never been in favor of parents using their children to further their own public lives.
McGinn's daughter is now a limited public person, free target of the press. The Stranger should feel free to ask her about politics, and report on her responses, now they can.
Congrats to McGinn on selling his child's privacy in a desperate attempt to further his political career.
I love hearing about elections from people that can't vote. It's usually about as accurate an advice as when vegans tell me that something is almost like eating an animal product (tofurkey - just like turkey, vegan cheese/guava cheese - just like cheese).
@3: Why on earth would Ed Murray accuse the Mayor of race baiting? Do you have any grounds for making that assertion? Or is it just bullshit you made up?
Besides, the more subtle reason for McGinn to run this ad is to show that he has kids and therefore must be more interested in education and issues that affect kids. (Unlike the childless homosexual--not that there's anything wrong with that!) That was the more interesting dynamic in the New York race.
@24 Maybe you need to keep up with the news - Murray accused McGinn of race baiting after one of McGinn's supporters recalled an instance of Murray not taking an aggressive anti-affirmative action stance. McGinn never accused Murray of racism, but Butthurt Murray couldn't handle the slightest heat on the issue.
@25 McGinn was chair of the committee that determined the amount funded by the levy. I voted for it too! And I'm glad that the mayor cares as much as we do about education.
@24, Murray said that about Velma Veloria, whom the mayor asked to speak at a McGinn endorsement press conference a couple weeks ago.
The issue didn't make it to Slog. Only Publicola covered it; Murray gave them that quote. Here's their story on it, with links to their earlier ones. http://www.seattlemet.com/news-and-profi…

I love mixed-races, sort of a cross-cultural thing. Can you say the word "Discuss" in the language of the Pig-Latonians?

That's just what happened.
Ed only has Fear on his side.

I guess that means I'm responsible for the SPD issues too, since I voted for the guy that coddles the current leadership over there.
