There's a difference between a negative review and general negativity. I agree that criticism's job is to, well, critique but I hate smarmy shallow takedowns far more than I hate genuine gushing high praises.
Yo lolohornem,
smarmy and shallow are my middle name
When I do it up, I get a bit of Slog fame
Takin down You, Gushing up him
I'm the genuine
it's all the same, it's all the same, it's all the same
I'm really looking forward to "27 Books about Doomed Romance" and "16 Books You Can Buy at the Airport" and "35 Books I Liked, But Not Really Enough to Write a Proper Review Of."
Now, class, there's a trophy here for each one of you. Curtis, you get the trophy for losing the first tooth. May, you get the trophy for having the reddest ribbon in your pigtail. Steve, you get the trophy for always eating all your snack.
@10 Every anti amazon/netflix post he makes, which are like 2 per day. You work with him - how often does he seem giddy to post his impotent screeds on slog?
I don't find the "good reviews only" policy to be a problem. The world of publishing has changed and there are so many new books coming out all the time, it's presumed a book is crap until someone says otherwise. We look to reviews to find something good. Once I know the reviewer didn't like the book, why would I want to get details about precisely how it sucked?
