Yeah, about Chattanooga:

The lowest speeds available are 50 Mbps, for $58 per month. Like Google Fiber, speeds reach 1 gigabit per second. However, Google Fiber is able to provide this speed at a much cheaper rate.

The $58/month rate offered by the Chattanooga isn't necessarily any cheaper than Comcast and is much more expensive than Google Fiber.

Still - some competition for Comcast would definitely be a good thing.

Comcast, according to WaPo, wants to do cell phones ...

Hooray Mayor! I just wrote him an angry letter complaining about the data transfer caps imposed by Wave Broadband and how restoring from the online backup I pay for would cost me $600 in 'overage charges' next year. I asked him to make the renewal of their franchise contract contingent on the removal of caps. Absurd in this day and age.

$30 a month for gigabit service.

Ezra: The core of this argument is the idea that internet is almost a right β€” and not just internet, but extremely high-speed internet. Why should we see that as a right and not as a luxury?

Susan: I wouldn't frame in terms of a right, I think it's just a utility. Other countries just take it for granted. I went to Stockholm in December. That’s something we can't even imagine in the United States.

Take off the blinders that the duopoly has placed upon you.

Has the Mayor never heard about CenturyLink?

You know, the guys who sponsor his city's football stadium?

I checked out their rate for City Hall...and it's quite good.

600 4th Ave #4, Seattle, WA 98104 can get 12 Mbps Internet for a mere $29.95 a month from CenturyLink.

I'm in Interbay. The only "choice' for broadband is Comcast. Centurylink only offers dialup. $45 a month for 25 Mbps. Some competition would be nice.

Are you sure? I just tried using address for the Interbay Golf Course (2501 15th Avenue West Seattle, WA 98119) on CenturyLink's site, and they offered me 7 Mbps for $29 a month. Also, you can bundle it with phone and DirecTV.

Bear in mind that the biggest costs are capital - putting the lines and wires in the ground - and the biggest operating costs are customer-acquisition, read marketing.
