Well, it is a decent first step, I suppose, and the absolute minimum our government should do.

Private prisons should not be legal. Period. The very concept of private prisons is perverse and sickening. It provides a financial incentive to pay the staff as little as possible, to understaff the prison, to provide the minimum possible security; and to provide as little service, conditions, or treatment of prisoners as possible; and to incarcerate as many people as possible for as long as possible.

And we wonder why we have such problems at these prisons?

correction: these people are ILLEGAL immigrants - to be confused with LEGAL immigrants.

I wonder if most SLOG readers even know the difference.

@1 "we wonder why we have such problems at these prisons?"

Most people don't, which is why the prison system is what it is. To most people, prison is supposed to be punishment - every day so awful that you'll never even consider stealing something so you can eat for example.

Watch the right go after this with allegations like -

"a nice vacation spot for illegal immigrants! They'll be crossing the borders in record numbers just to stay a few weeks in our 5 star detention centers!".

@2: People are not prohibited by law; actions are. There are no illegal immigrants; only illegal immigration. I think you mean to say that these are people suspected of having immigrated illegally.
