Ukraine... "Where will it end."

One possibility.

"Today, I feel almost the same. Even now, we live in [the] USA, and my feeling, the government, not a big difference," Tran says

This tells us more about Mr. Tran then it does about statism. How dare local government regulate air pollution!

Re: Ukraine, has anyone been following the Nation/Democracy Now! coverage of the crisis? Makes Obama and Kerry seem like idiots and/or imperialists, not that I disagree.
"Am I entitled to one mistake?
Good thing America never gives rich people second chances.

Due to budget cuts and outdated regulations, the Bureau of Land Management (U.S. Dept. of the Interior) has failed to adequately monitor fracking activity—Government Accountability Office report:
...The report said the BLM had failed to conduct inspections on more than 2,100 of the 3,702 wells that it had specified as "high priority" and drilled from 2009 through 2012. The agency considers a well "high priority" based on a greater need to protect against possible water contamination and other environmental safety issues...

[The] BLM has not reviewed or updated many of its oil and gas rules to reflect technological advances, as required by a 2011 executive order. They include guidance on spacing of wells, which the report said could help maximize oil and gas production. The bureau acknowledged it had not updated its guidance on oil and gas drainage since 1999...

The report makes clear in many instances that the BLM's failure to inspect high-priority oil and gas wells is due to limited money and staff...

@4 Fracking is the leaded gasoline of the modern era. Did you catch that Cosmos episode about leaded gas?
6
@5, no (don't have cable or satellite TV), but I tracked down the info—thanks.

Another aspect is the undocumented solvents included in fracking fluids that add to the volatility of fracked crude, making pipelines and rail cars transporting it that much more dangerous.

Seattle really wanted Dominique Easley in the first round, so when he got picked before them, they traded out of the first round to grab an extra pick. A fine strategy, but then they reached for quite a few players.

On paper Seattle did not draft very well this year, but the issue is that everyone was also calling their 2012 draft a disaster. So you know, grain of salt.

Young whippersnappers.

What I find interesting is the loss of downtime that so many of us, and especially young people, experience. There is so much less completely unstructured time.

I'm really getting tired of the Sriracha story. Measure the fucking air quality around town during processing. If it's over a previously establish amount, do something about it, if not then don't.

Why is this so fucking difficult?

@6 it airs on Fox, just need an antenna. And you obviously have internet, so it airs anywhere anytime you have a computer.

@8 I think you're really hit the nail on the head. I remember in college while I was drinking from a firehose, my desire to read for fun was greatly, greatly diminished.

My view may be a little skewed because my kids are voracious and advanced readers, but there certainly are plenty of words on the Internet and other "new" technologies and interacting with them seems like it should be considered reading.

Now, there may be something interesting happening with reading that makes you smarter, versus reading that makes everyone dumber, but I don't see that research here.

As a youngster, I read voraciously. I still do, but I quickly run out of books. My current habits are to delve through news and interesting scientific write-ups on the internet, buy myself the occasional new book (and finish it within two days), and periodically re-read something particularly good.

@10, I'm one of the more rural Sloggers—my most constant companions are wind, sagebrush, and coyotes. TV broadcast signals, not so much.

Please wait...
