Tonight in Why Aren't You Moving to Spokane News, I just came across this event listed in The Inlander (America's Best Read Urban Weekly, :P)

Summer Parkways is tomorrow night!

Spokane Summer Parkways is an idea inspired by an event in Bogota, Colombia called Ciclovia (meaning “bike path” in Spanish) and similar events in other parts of the world. The focus is on recreation, fitness, and community when we close 4 miles of roadway to automobiles and open up the streets to bikes, pedestrians, skaters, and other human-powered transportation.

Physical fitness activities like yoga, Zumba, hula hoops, gymnastics, tai chi, fencing, dancing, Pilates, self defense, jump rope, hacky sack, and martial arts will be offered free along the course to encourage a healthy lifestyle for everyone. Folks of all ages and abilities may enter and exit the course at any point and enjoy these activities. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own games and hobbies along (e.g. picnics, music, chalk art, hopscotch, bubbles, juggling, jump rope, etc).

A bicycle festival based on something from South America?

Come On!

Spokane is playing Seattle's game....and winning!

Did Rush ever consider that perhaps the reason a bookstore won't carry his books for children is because they don't believe an obese, thrice-divorced drug addict is a good model for kids?
3
Is it possible to order books through Busboys website? I looked around a little bit but didn't see a catalog search option, or anywhere to order.

I had a good burger there when I visited DC but, alas, didn't have a chance to look through the books.

My review of Vonnegut's Galapagos just went live on Amazon...three decades after and maybe even then too soon.

...The Advanced Genius Theory states that when a truly brilliant mind seems to be in the senescence of a career, it [the big brain] could be producing its greatest works. That may be the case here...

@2
great question. You should comment more often. I have a feeling you're of the demographic The Stranger shoots for.
6
Busboys seems to make it surprisingly difficult to order books through their website. Their breakfast menu does look nice though.
7
So Amazon.com isnt to blame?

I live a couple of floors above a Busboys and Poets. Its owner, Andy Shallal, is the American-raised son of Iraqi diplomats and ran for the Democratic nomination for DC mayor this year. He's opened several locations in up-and-coming neighborhoods, to their great and lasting benefit.
They're not primarily bookstores, any more than a Starbucks is primarily a record store.

On the off chance that Limbaugh has been anywhere near one, the giant portrait of Shirley Chisholm outside the entrance no doubt would have scared him away.

Great Murakami clip, thanks!

Order placed from Busboys, despite their best efforts.

What @6 says. Artistically cool site but incredibly difficult to navigate.

Please wait...
