Raping Kids? Get paid!!! That's what Christianity is all about!!!
2
This kind of thing just isn't getting the media attention it deserves because people care more about what some cheap celebrity is wearing.
3
Is that a typo on the name, "Bailo".
4
@2

Please. The Kardashians are not cheap.
5
Not so fast, The Gays... Balyo, was arrested in Gaylord, Michigan...
7
And you'll NEVER guess which way Balyo swings.....

Fans of the suspended "HomoSexual Youth Pastor Watch" will note that Baylo, like a hugely disproportionate number of molesters, is homosexual.
8
Danny reads the story and says "Nasty Xtian"....

rest of the world reads it and says "Nasty Disgusting Degenerate Pervert Homos..."
9
@5 thru 8, everybody can see your erection.
10
Don't reply to the troll. Don't reply to the troll. Don't reply to the troll. Jesus, it is taking all my willpower not to reply to the fucking troll!
11
The sad thing is that people who want to victimize children are drawn to jobs where they have access to children. It is important to take background checks seriously and to watch for suspicious behavior.
12
@11 - yep. And in all cases where there is an explicit hierarchy built on implicit notions of duty and self-abnegation, abuse of the helpless is practically a given. It's inherent to the power structure.
13
@12 An inherently disordered structure.
14
I'm just going to go back to the part where it says he's being paid while he's on leave. Paid. Not that he's been fired in disgrace. Not that there's been any sort of apology or that they're reviewing their hiring practices or the efficacy of the background checks they use. Paid.
15
@12 "Legalism" according to this long read about an org trying to uncover and prevent sex abuse in Protestant churches:

http://prospect.org/article/next-christi…

They say such abuse is often the by-product of “legalism,” a catchall term for rigid, rule-oriented Christianity wherein the state of your soul is reflected by the length of your skirt or how you discipline your children.
16
Not only did I used to work for that radio station (actually, I worked for the adjacent WAYfm that was recently shuttered), I knew Balyo in passing. The morning show is one of the most listened to shows in that market, rivaling many "secular" stations. What's the most messed up is that people are leaving comments praying for Balyo. How about we pray for the kids he (allegedly) had sex with.
18
@16 These kids were probably atheist succubi.
19
@17: Yeah, we should just ignore it.
20
@11, what's surprising isn't that these people are drawn to these jobs; what's surprising is that these jobs continue to provide such inviting sanctuaries for them. Church and football are the child molester's best friends.
21
Paid administrative motherfucking LEAVE???? God DAMMIT that pisses me off! What is it about NOT RAPING CHILDREN is difficult? DON'T FUCKING DO IT, and if someone you've hired does it, fire them and call the police. While you're beating the shit out of them from sheer rage. Though that last bit may or may not be advisable and maybe won't help things.

Jesus Christ, I hate this world sometimes.

Thomas G. Plante, "Pedophile Priests: What Do We Know about Catholic Clergy Who Sexually Victimize Minors?" in Mental Disorders of the New Millennium, Vol. 1 (Greenwood Publishing Group, 2006), p. 236

"Although the majority of clergy abuse victims are males, homosexuality cannot be blamed. First, many of the pedophile priests report that they are not homosexual. This is also true of many non-clergy sex offenders who victimize boys. Many report that they target boys for a variety of reasons that include easier access to boys (e.g., working as a coach in an all-boys Catholic school), pregnancy fears with female victims, and more easily established trust and access with boys (and perhaps with their parents). Second, homosexuals in general have not been found to be more likely to commit sexual crimes against minors compared to heterosexuals. Sexual orientation is not predictive of sex crimes."
23
@14, @21 Balyo has only been arrested so far, not convicted or even arraigned, so arguably his employer is doing an admirable job of not overreacting, neither taking sides nor pitching their employee out precipitously.

Now, a limited Internet search indicates that pretty much all child pornography charges result in convictions, so waiting for due process is arguably being obstinately slow to react.
24
@3: My thoughts exactly... But Bailo isn't a monster. Balyo is.
25
22

bullshit.

Homosexual: (from Ancient Greek ὁμός, meaning "same", and Latin sexus, meaning "sex") is romantic attraction, sexual attraction or sexual behavior between members of the same sex or gender.

These are homosexual crimes.

If it makes you feel better you can call them homosexual pedophiles.

whatever.

it is not a matter of "blame".

just cold hard facts.

The Truth will set you free......
26
@5,7,8

Experience teaches us that people who willfully confuse homosexuality and pedophilia are always either self-hating homosexuals deep in their own closets or are people who are attempting to misdirect attention away from their own sexual perversions, deviant obsessions and violent actions.

Please stop harming yourself or others today, and get help today.

If you are harming children or fantasizing about children like so many who willfully confuse being gay with being a pedophile, please, please, PLEASE move yourself physically away from the child(ren) immediately, right now, TODAY, and contact your local mental health clinic immediately.

DO IT NOW. RIGHT NOW.
27
@25

See #26.

We've NEVER seen an exception to this observation.

All outwardly focused hate is personal.

All attempts at misdirection by deliberately confusing being gay with being a pedophile, which are clearly NOT the same, is an obvious attempt to hide some sexual or violent secret about yourself.

Pedophiles are sexually attracted to children. They are neither heterosexual (straight) or homosexual (gay).

Gay men are sexually attracted to MEN, not little boys, just as straight men are attracted to WOMEN, not little girls.

If you are truly confused about these facts, we are left to wonder how else this confusion has manifested itself in your sexual behaviors.

Your stated confusion means that you believe it is "straight" for grown men to be sexually attracted to little girls, and for "straight" women to be sexually attracted to little boys. Again, homosexual and heterosexual ADULTS are NOT sexually attracted to CHILDREN. Pedophiles, who are NOT straight or gay, are sexually attracted to children.

Are you sexually attracted to children of the opposite sex?

If so, you are a pedophile, not straight and not gay, just pedophile.

No matter the reason for your confusion, please stay away from children and seek counseling from a mental health clinic or professional today.

28
@25: Read ##26 & 27.
Also, Dan Savage admitted to having sex with "an actual female's actual vagina". By your logic, he is heterosexual (or at the very least bisexual). But as we all know, Dan is exceedingly homogay! How gay is Dan? Well, he married a gay guy, which is about the gayest thing a guy can do.
See, it's not who you have sex with one time that defines your orientation or paraphilia, but rather who the object of your attractions are.
29
When adults rape children (and all adult sex with children is rape) the rape is about power, not sex. Raping anyone is not a sexual act, it is an act of violence. The penis or fingers or object is the weapon used in the act of violence. Rapists don't rape to get off, they rape to violate both mind and body. Rapists commonly report that they have sex with their spouse, girl/boy friend, or sex worker following their raping their victim.

Rape is not sex. The gender of the rape victim is not tied to the rapist's sexual preference. See #22 and read as many times as needed to comprehend.
30
@22, @26, @27, @28 & @29 Perhaps I am sheltered, but hasn't the fact that homosexuality and pedophilia are different things reached such a point of consensus that we can laugh off the trolls, crackpots and religious institutions that still subscribe to such a debunked and thoroughly ridiculous notion?
31
@29

Agreed. Rape is not sex. It is an act of violence and dominance.

It is also NOT about SEXUAL ORIENTATION (being straight, gay, bi, etc.) - a FALSE argument perpetuated by the referenced article.

The article referenced by #22 FAILS to make this FACT absolutely clear that sexual attraction to children is NOT about GENDER or SEXUAL ORIENTATION, and in so doing the article allows the conversation of pedophilia to become confused and muddled.

PEDOPHILIA is NOT about SEXUAL ORIENTATION.

Why would you ask a pedophile whether they are straight or gay when their pedophilia obviously NOT about being EITHER?

Any sexual attraction they may have or claim to have to ADULTS of the same gender or of the opposite gender is SEPARATE and DISTINCT from their sexual attraction to CHILDREN.

AGAIN, any ADULT's sexual attraction to CHILDREN is NOT straight, is NOT gay and is NOT bi.

It must be addressed and treated as a separate sexual attraction, obsession or compulsion, and NOT confused with SEXUAL ORIENTATION.

If you want to help children and you want to stop pedophiles, STOP CONFUSING PEDOPHILIA WITH ATTRACTION TO GENDER.
32
@30

Obviously, no such consensus has yet prevailed among so-called "conservative" religions and political parties as both continue to perpetuate the confusion.

Their choice to make confused what has been made perfectly clear begs the question of why they would attempt to shield pedophiles and cloak pedophilia by falsely associating pedophilia with sexual orientation.

The continued discoveries of multiple cases of child molestations, assaults and rapes among the ranks of these same groups would seem to answer the question of their willful obfuscation.

Beware the misdirection and redirection of self-proclaimed saviors of the world and defenders of the faith.
33
To those outraged about the paid administrative leave:

1) There's that whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing. I agree that child rapists deserve whatever brutality waits for them in prison, but only if they actually committed the crime.

2) This sort of organization is full of people completely deluded into believing their own line of bullshit that they can't even comprehend that someone so "full of grace" (as I've heard the phrase used) could be capable of such behavior. Because he's supposedly speaking directly on behalf of their invisible friend, he would not be capable of such a thing. Hence, they're likely going to pay him until it becomes absolutely irrefutable that he did these things he's accused of. And maybe not even then (again, delusion).
34
@33

Beliefs are for fearful, lazy minds that have long abandoned the challenging work of introspection, curiosity and discovery that is required to address the universal state of being human: not knowing.

Fear and ignorance produce herds.
35
@Knat

They have to pay him, or realize he who was listening to their god, was not. It's a small step that could lead them to think that their god doesn't speak. And doesn't exist. A small step they won't take gladly.

Fun stuff : in French, "gode" means dildo.
36
While I agree with the general sense of rage on here let's remember the fundamental cornerstone of our legal system. Innocent until proven guilty. You shouldn't get fired for being arrested. You get fired for being convicted. Until there's a trial proving his guilt paid administrative leave is entirely reasonable. Once he's convicted we can proceed with firing, incarcerating and castrating him.
37
@36

Here's another bit of legal advice:

As of December, 2012, Michigan became a Right To Work State, which means that your employment can be terminated at will with or without cause.

So, if the alleged pedophile was employed without a contract, he can be fired just because its Wednesday.

Second, I don't know of any religious organization that does not include a "morals clause" in their employment contracts and that does not define a breach of contract for any behavior or actions, alleged or proven, that may negatively impact the organization's reputation, standing and/or financial earnings.

Getting arrested as a primary suspect in one of the biggest child porn investigations in Michigan's history would certainly seem to be a breach of any such contract.

The radio station would be well within its legal rights to conduct its own investigation into these allegations. They have not indicated any such action would be taken on their part, much like they and others like them in similar religious organizations demonstrate little or no resolve in making their religious businesses and churches less inviting and accommodating to pedophiles.

The anger here is not directed simply at the alleged pedophile, but also at his enablers and apologists...and, possibly, his accomplices...and most deservedly at the blind eye that religious groups keep turning to the rapes, molestations and violence committed against children in their care, under their own roofs.
38
@37: I agree with most of what you said but feel compelled to correct you.
"Right To Work" allows workers to reap the benefits of union representation without having to pay dues (whether those dues go to the union or not). You mean "At-Will Employment", which Michigan is.
However, there are exceptions to at-will employment. Apart from standard anti-discrimination laws, if a company has a termination procedure outlining its own rules for how employees may be fired, any employees fired in a manner not in accordance with that procedure can sue for wrongful termination.

I think that the correct course of action for the radio station would be to suspend him without pay pending results of the investigation/trial. If he is found guilty, he can then be terminated. If he is (somehow) innocent, he can be reinstated with pay retroactive to the suspension. If it's as open-and-shut as it appears to be, the station can proceed under the assumption of the first possibility.
39
I know this article is a couple days old, so most likely no one will read this, but I just had to respond to one of these comments.

@31. You say pedophilia is not a sexual orientation. But the phrase is "sexual orientation", not "sexual gender orientation". Pedophilia is a absolutely a sexual orientation, it just refers to age, not gender. The opposite orientation of pedophilia is attraction to adults, aka "normal" people. I'm sure there is a scientific term for this but since I don't feel like looking it up lets just say cissexual, in the same way that non-trans people (what most people just consider "normal") can be called cisgender.

As far as pedophiles being gay or straight, I agree that pedophiles would probably not use either of those words to describe themselves, because those words connotate someone who is attracted to adults. But every pedophile IS either hetero, homo, or bisexual. (Meaning the children they are attracted to fall under a certain gender.) That doesn't mean lunatics like @25 should lump homosexual pedophiles in with normal homosexuals, but everyone does have a gender orientation and an age orientation.*

I do see the point you were making, and understand your comment was mainly a response to people like @25 who simply don't know what the hell they're talking about, but calling pedophilia an "obsession or compulsion" but not an orientation is like calling a gay person mentally ill. Pedophilia may be more harmful to society but it is as much a sexual orientation as gay, straight, or bi.

*To confuse the issue, the thing about pedophilia is that there is a spectrum, on one side of which is someone exclusively attracted to children. The opposite side is someone who is exclusively attracted to adults. But in between are people who are attracted to adults and children, to varying degrees. So it is possible for someone to identify publicly as gay, and also be a pedophile, which, in the eyes of homophobes like @25, would seem to validate their crazy opinions. In reality though these people are too simple-minded to understand an issue this complex.
40
@39 You have an otherwise great post, but 'cissexual' is already a term that means something, and even if it didn't, using the prefix 'cis' (the opposite of 'trans') for that usage is probably an insensitively bad idea in and of itself.

I think I would have gone with adult- or legal-sexual for that.
41
I was reading this thinking, "yes, yes, yes, this is almost the same as youth pastor watch, typical savage blog" until the last sentence. Arrrrg.
