only time will erode the grip of monotheism. years and years with no earthly consequences for disbelief will allow it to become the norm exponentially. but think decades.
Things haven't changed much in 30 years. I attended an American Atheists annual convention in Denver many years ago. We had a march to and rally at the State Capitol building, and Madalyn Murray-O'Hair was wearing a white dress. As she started her speech, she told us that she had originally selected a red dress, but that the Denver PD security detail that was scattered about in plainclothes had asked that she wear white, 'so the blood would be easier to spot in case I was shot'.
4 of us ate lunch at a little cafe nearby after the rally, and were harassed throughout by a guy with a microphone and PA system standing across the street. The police finally showed up and had him turn down the volume a little bit.
Hey god's li'l helper, thanks for the tip! I think my new copy of Awkward Moments will go great on my bookshelf next to R.Crumb's The Book of Genesis Illustrated. I never would have found out without you, so again, thanks!
I can't stand proselytizers, theist or atheist, but death threats are never acceptable. Also, Deuteronomy 13 is about rejecting and stoning proselytizers who preach adherence to idols, not those who believe that there are no gods. Oddly enough, atheism doesn't really come up in the Tanakh; presumably it was a strange time in which people couldn't make sense of the world without invoking the supernatural.
Oh ya so tough I'm gonna threaten to kill you for daring to disagree with me because I'm pathetically insecure in my belief, Christians are such pathetic cowards the whole lot of them.
Just putting this out there belief in a power greater than yourself (god, allah, yahweh)doesn't make you a nutjob like the guy that sent this letter. Toxic people exist in every walk of life. You can't compare people who run let's say a soup kitchen out of their church with let's say the westboro whackos that picket a funeral. And i'm sure your intent was to sympathize with the author writing something like "Christians are such pathetic cowards the whole lot of them." only perpetuates the cycle of hate.
@Dade, he also didn't put the apostrophe in "won't." Also, I clicked it to enlarge (as it says to do), yet it only makes it zoom out and over a bit, but it actually looks a tad smaller than the original. I've noticed this on various retail sites, also. Is it a sort of techie joke?
