Sonics rule.

I'm gonna vote for their weirdest cover being Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" -- they played it live when they played the Paramount on Halloween, 2008. Ouch, but still love 'em and wanna hear the new record.

The Sonics get a bunch of play in my all NW podcast Grit Rock along with current bands and they fit in nicely. Facebook.com/GritRock Tacoma is awesome and The Sonics are classic!

"Shout" is an Isley Brothers song. Otis Day and The Nights is a made-up band.

@4, inevitably, after the movie became a hit Otis Day and the Knights got together as a real band, toured and put out a CD produced by George Clinton.

PROBABLY?

Gerry Roslie is currently on heart #2. The fact that he still kicks this much ass after a heart transplant is pretty incredible.

For a band in a genre that existed organically for all of maybe six years, max, fifty plus years ago and counting, it's faint praise indeed to call them the best of the genre.

But then, if you assume your readers think "garage" means "kind of punk, I guess?" or "maybe that UK electronical stuff?" then you're probably not too worried about being called out on pandering to a localized audience with grating music-crit hagiography like that.
