Here's a thought then, don't attack cops sitting in their cars and try to grab their guns. Especially if you're high.
2
Congratualtions to these young students for their civic involvement. I does my heart proud to see these youth in the street with such passion and awareness.

You guys are the future of America, if you continue to set the agenda as you did today.

Bravo!!

What Pol Pot said.

@1:

Conversely, if you're a cop, don't unholster your service revolver while sitting in your car with an unarmed kid inches away from you and expect to get off an unprovoked kill-shot without a fight.
5
Sergeant Hall did this on August 20th at 3:43 PM, one day after the murder of Michael Brown.

Point of order: Michael Brown was shot and killed on August 9, not August 19.
7
I remember using Malcom X economic actions as suggestions when I gave a Junior Achievement class at Garfield.

Keep up the good work, students!
8
How hard would it be for cops to dash out of the building and get into position if people started to vandalize?

It sure doesn't sound like the captain came out and talked to the protesters, like the state police guy did in Missouri.
9
"What Pil Pot said"

Yeah, because Hitler was busy.

Isn't it just terrible the way police harass criminals like Michael Brown.
10
"Sweet and docile, Meek, humble, and kind: Beware the day They change their mind.”

Crime statistics would indicate a significant change of mind has been underway for decades: And doing a rather spectacular job of slaughtering each other, notwithstanding the assertions of police persecution.

But let's see what we've learned about Michael Brown through the video, undisputed public statements and a third consistent autopsy, including one Federal and one independent on behalf of Browns family.

A 6'3" 290 lb young man
A very-recent strong arm robbery
Hanging out with a repeat assault criminal
Pushing a hefty THC blood toxicity number
Walking down the middle of a busy primary roadway

...Somehow manages to be shot in the hand at close range, with his arms INSIDE the cab of a cop car.

Now: What is the plausible reason his hands were in the car?
11
“What is the plausible reason his hands were in the car?”

He was showing off his jazz hands?
12
@10
Don't forget, he also assaulted the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
13
@12 they sell Swisher Sweets in Benghazi?
14
Whats sad is that the Seattle City Council, including Mrs Self Proclaimed Socialist herself, has given two shits about the state of police abuse and racism in Seattle. 2x goes for King County.

Even you guys at the Stranger gave Justice Charles "blacks are just naturally prone to criminality" Johnson a pass in your voter guide. And dont forget how the Stranger backed Mike "turn the other cheek to police racism/shut down all black owned businesses in Central" McGuinn in the last mayoral election.

@10

I LOVE how racists claim statistics are on their side, praying that people dont actually look the numbers up!

FACTS: Actually black crime is down across America, and has been sinking since 2007, according to statistics.

source- http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_p…

Likewise, the majority of offenders in Seattle and in America are white.

source- http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/cri…

On top of that, for the most common crime in Seattle (drug offenses), whites are both the majority of offenders AND more likely to offender per capita. Yet the vast majority of police resources are aimed at blacks (about 4% of Seattles drug offending population)

Wait for it...

Mad props, those students are amazing. Stay strong and organized! I'm a WWU student, and will do my best to share this
17
Lacking in emphasis here is the "what are they doing for society" snark. To me, this just shows how deeply ingrained the racism is in the department. That a black cop in a leadership position could make that statement seemingly without any self awareness is shocking. This seems to be the mentality that cops bring to every interaction with minorities - "you don't contribute anything to society, you have no rights."
18
"a black man is killed by police in America every 28 hours..."

wow.

and how often is a black man killed by another black man in America?

and why don't blacks care about THOSE murdered black men?

you know, the black man killed every 93 minutes by another black man in America.

@15.

sweetie, did you know black men kill each other at TEN TIMES gthe rate white men kill each other?

why do blacks hate black men so much?

Heal Thy Fucking Self, Bitch.....

19
Hey #14...

I'm all with you that the Council hasn't pushed more on this.

BUT, it was Justice James Johnson who said "blacks have a crime problem," not the currently running Charles Johnson. If you're going to be self-righteous and indignant, it pays to actually be right about it.
20
Sorry it was so rainy yesterday for the Garfield BSU march. Great job expressing your concerns and starting a dialogue. What are you doing for society? Going to school at a great high school, getting a high school diploma and thinking about how to improve society.
21
@14 see @19.... wrong Johnson.
22
Huh, I think it's pretty cool that there's even a black student union at all.
23
22

how about a White Student Union.

cool?

Ignorant Racist Asshole.
25
Does Garfield have a white student union?
26
@24

You are siding with the racists.
27
@ 14 clearly has a Johnson problem.
28
Well hopefully this will put a dent in the epidemic of white cops going up to 250 pound street criminals and trying to pull them into their cop cars through the window, then pushing them out of the car and shooting them SEVEN TIMES. UNNECESSARY!
29
@15

"Racism" is the belief that people behave BECAUSE of their genetics. Nobody (I hope) is suggesting that crime is driven by simply being "black."

But there is no genius pointing out that black crime has gone down. Arrests and incarceration have skyrocketed. While the United States represents about 5 percent of the world's population, it houses around 25 percent of the world's prisoners. They are disproportionately black (37.1%). Crime goes down when you round-up the criminals. Genius.

You can say their is over-policing for drugs, but in cases where there are assaults, murders, robbery – are you suggesting that these cases are largely fabricated, or we should relax policing of them (like the de-criminalization of pot?)

Yes, in fact most crimes in Seattle are committed by whites. Most people in Seattle are white. But only a fool would suggest there isn't a very serious problem with criminality in "the black community", AND the effect of black crime being disproportionately inflicted on innocent black people and communities.

Wouldn't Garfields' Black Student Union be better served addressing the fact that most of the murder victims in Seattle are black? And it isn't from cops and whites, Asians, Pacific Islanders.....

It isn't racist to acknowledge there's a cultural & values problem – unrelated to genetics – in the "black community."

The real problem is political. Kids at Garfield can scream and shout at the police about Ferguson. But their anger and concern is mislaid with Officer Wilson and dear, sweet, innocent Michael "Cigars" Brown.

Statistically, the chance of them being robbed, beaten or murdered by another member of the Black Student Union is far, far higher than any physical encounter with a racist white police officer.

But you don't get your picture in Stranger for challenging the prevailing narrative, in calling bullshit on the Grievance Industry.

There was a great display of police incompetency and wasted tax dollars last night. The small protest was in the late afternoon, by the time the pice put up barricades all but 4 or 5 protesters had left (according to the liquor store clerk, whose shop was behind the barricade).
32
31

don't forget he was stoned out of his head....
33
29

no doubt if we decriminalized the killing of black males we could empty our prisons.

SEVENTEEN black men have been murdered by other black men since this article was posted yesterday afternoon.

Stand back so you are not trampled by Garfield High School's Moral Pygmies rushing out to protest it.....

@31:

The evidence shows no such thing.

@10:

There was NO "strong arm robbery". The second video recovered from the convenience store clearly shows Brown paying for his purchase, a claim backed up by the store owner, who did NOT report a robbery.

Wilson had no knowledge that someone else had called in to 911 prior to encountering Brown.

Wilson would not have had any way of knowing Brown had recently smoked cannabis without the results of a toxicological test requiring a blood or urine sample.

One has to wonder why Wilson unholstered his service revolver while still sitting in his car. If he felt threatened in any way, why not just roll up the window or drive forward a few feet, either of which would have been much easier to do than drawing his weapon presumably while seated and wearing a restraint.

Wilson claims he did this after Brown "repeatedly" punched and scratched him in the face, but images taken at the scene and after the alleged altercation do not show any obvious bruising or abrasion to his face, nor do subsequent photos taken at the hospital. Furthermore, it has been reported that Wilson did not seek attention from medics who arrived on-scene shortly after the shooting - very strange, considering the amount of physical damage Wilson claims to have suffered. (And I won't even bother to address the completely bogus "broken eyesocket" fabrication, which was clearly a hoax.)

The leaked report from forensic pathologist Dr. Judy Melinek, which has been making the rounds over the past few days, is actually much more supportive of eyewitness accounts, and LESS of officer Wilson's than the MSM has led us to believe. For example, we know for a fact that Wilson fired more rounds than actually struck Brown, and the contention that he was not running away at the time he was shot doesn't take this into account. Furthermore, upon examination it's also clear that news reports, taken from an interview with Dr. Melinik and NOT from the text of the actual report she submitted, indicate the interviewer either completely misunderstood or misinterpreted statements made during the interview. In actuality the report itself is far from conclusive on the matter, and suggests the evidence could support either Wilson OR the eyewitnesses, but that, lacking a complete on-site forensic examination, there is no way to make an absolute determination of what occurred, which is a very different conclusion than what is being reported in the media.
35

The "second" video shows no such thing. It clearly shows the owner confronting Brown. Why? If he paid – as you claim.

Wilson didn't need to know that Brown was high. But it certainly erodes the "poor, innocent kid."

36
Mike Brown dindu nuffin! Security cameras are racist!
37
“The second video recovered from the convenience store clearly shows Brown paying for his purchase, a claim backed up by the store owner, who did NOT report a robbery.”

Citation for that steaming pile of bullshit please, and not to a blog.

too bad for you the facts are quickly blowing that pile of bullshit back into your face, you malignant bigoted maggot

Totally uncool with the batons, SPD. Expect the best of your kids and you'll get it. If you expect the worst and you'll get that as well.
40
39

oh you are precious
41
@Zok

You have clearly accepted the ridiculous notion that shoplifting and pot smoking deserves a public execution. It precludes any consideration of an contrary argument. But racist ontology be damned, I guess I'll try to say I did.

No one should be killed by a racially biased police system (since it is not simple a matter of a few racist officers). If you don't or can't understand that basic concept grounded in empathy and the appreciation of human life, then we're just working under different worldviews. I would however offer that the easy dismissal of millions of people is (and has been) the cause of the most horrific crimes between humans.
