Doing your tour did they explain why the $15/seat rate is in effect at all times? At places like Sundance (which also has reserved seating) there is variable pricing, so seats are cheaper at noon on Mondays and more expensive on a Friday evening.
I don't see the Cinerama filling tons of seats at noon on a Monday at $15 a seat. But maybe I'm totally wrong.
I will seek out particular seats, so if I have to go at an "off" time and still pay the $15 - so be it.
I am SUPER excited about this. I am old; old enough to have seen "This is Cinerama" when that format debuted - I still remember sitting in the front seats as a kid while the curved screen took us through canyons and on a roller coaster ride. I know this isn't Cinerama, but.... still, excited to have a top-notch theater once again.
It is good that you should approve of income inequality when it is manifested here, in the low entertainment forms.
Inequality is only out of place in the serious parts of life; when it comes time to frivolously entertain, the rich ought to be allowed to enjoy the benefits of their excess capacity.

according to the press release. yes
Hungry? Don't fret! While Cinerama's chocolate popcorn remains a signature item, you'll get to peruse a new menu featuring locally-sourced food, sweets, beer, wine and cider. The expanded concessions menu features local favorites including pretzels from Tom Douglas' Brave Horse Tavern and gourmet hot dog options from Uli's Sausage and Painted Hills Natural Beef. Sweets from Theo Chocolate, Cupcake Royale and Full Tilt Ice Cream will also be available. Last, we've installed six taps with beverages from Elysian Brewing Company, Fremont Brewing Company, Seattle Cider Company and Proletariat Wine Company.
Have the sight lines improved? I'm assuming they have, based on the reduction in number of seats. But the sight lines were the worst thing about the old Cinerama.
@10 -- Hunger games is one of only two movies so far getting the atmos mix treatment, as nice as inland empire will be, the studio(s) has to pay someone to make the sounds fly around our heads. I've been waiting for this format for awhile... kind of like 3d though, lets see what they do with it.
$15 sounds reasonable to me for a superior viewing experience that you can't find anywhere else in town.
If you are angry about no matinee prices maybe you should try contacting the theatre management directly instead of posting about it here.
Theatre employees can't physically remove people from the theatre, they can only ask them to be quiet or to leave. Sometimes they refuse, cuz they are assholes. In this case I suggest you get a refund or pass if they are ruining your experience.
My home projector doesn't have 160 speakers or a laser but my screen is 8 feet wide and I can watch movies on my couch, in my pajamas and spark our new green law.
"All of this comes with an increased ticket price, but one that’s not wildly out of line with other downtown theaters. Cinerama tickets now cost a flat $15, for matinee or evening shows, 2D or 3D. You can purchase and choose seats online for an extra $1.50, or do so in person at the box office for no fee. By comparison, nearby AMC Pacific Place and Regal Meridian downtown are approximately $12-$13 for an evening 2D screening; $15-$16 for 3D; matinees are a couple of dollars less. Downtown’s other massive screen, the Boeing IMAX Cinema at Pacific Science Center, is $14.75 (plus $2.50 online booking); it will close in the spring for a renovation of its own."
Personally I wonder how many patrons don't "get" the reserved-seat thing, and wander around sitting anywhere they feel like.
#17, there are better theatres in Northgate, right next to the P&R. Imax screens with matinee prices. Check it out. The sound may not be as good, but the viewing is much better.
@21: If you think the Thorton Place "IMAX" is better than the Boeing IMAX Theater or Cinerama's regular and Cinerama screens, then you really don't know what you're talking about.
@22 The Boeing IMAX Theater is awesome, but the Piccard one sucks, the seats are way too close to the screen and don't sit in one of the angle seats for a 3D movie.

How about christening with a reprise of their 2007 screening of Inland Empire? Now, there's a film deserving of the new sound system.
will there still be chocolate popcorn?
