Tacoma's downtown core was not transformed or remade. It is still just as much of a sleazy, crime ridden hellhole as ever. One ugly art museum doesn't change anything, as both downtown Seattle (SAM) and Seattle Center (Chihuly) can attest. What is with this "fake it until you make it" mentality regarding revitalizing downtown areas in this region?

Somehow, I suspect: 1. You haven't been in Tacoma ever but sit in your smug self righteousness in some suburban blight and 2. Your idea of art is more akin to dogs playing poker and velvet Elvis than anything you might see at SAM or TAM.

#2, you're off on both counts. I used to bus from Olympia to Seattle, taking me right through downtown Tacoma. It is no better than Spanaway when it comes to sleaze.

My idea of art is more classical, although it does also delve into the surreal. It certainly applies to neither the banal world of the Velvet Elvis nor the overglorified world of crapped out pieces called modern art.

If you want to actually bash me on an art project involving my own opinion, I'd like to see the Olympic Sculpture Garden torn down and the land returned to Myrtle Edwards style grassy field.

Now at least you have real as opposed to imaginary ammunition.
