Betcha the new police "cars" are the aggressive-looking Explorer-based Police Interceptor SUV rather than the Taurus-based sedan.

As to housing, if a lot of people leave, prices will go down. if prices don't go down, then prices were not too high. It all works out well. Don't worry so much.

RE: Comcast. Basement dwellers rejoice; Xtube.com is wicked fast.

Colors matter, and SPD is getting this one wrong.

We often have an unconscious response to color. In this case, light blue is generally perceived as less threatening than black or navy blue. It is perceived as a softer color.

If we are expecting our police to use violence less often, to try to deescalate tense situations, then choosing more militaristic and aggressive colored uniforms and vehicles will just make it harder.

SPD is changing their uniforms to hide pit stains. Turns out the existing uniforms are dry-clean-only!!

@1 I read yesterday (sorry no link handy) they're going with mostly Tauruses with a "few" SUVs.

@4

Yep, what I thought, too. Dark blue will be more intimidating.
7
I don't know how widespread that accent thing is (prevelar raising). I've only ever heard one person in WA say "bayg" for bag.
8
The relative lack of an accent/flat speech pattern is something that I love about the Left Coast in general, though some of the Southern accents are lovely to hear, I'm thinking of Georgia and North Carolina specifically.

Why focus on his chosen job?
He's just a man.
There's no regulation in the title "minister". Literally ANYONE can preach to anyone at any time. Hell, I'm doing so now.
And anyone can spend a few minutes online and become an ORDAINED minister qualified to MARRY PEOPLE.

Being a minister doesn't make him any more or less deserving of pity than ANY OTHER person.
It doesn't make the act of brutality against him any MORE wrong than the same done to anyone else.

@4 - @6: Such fashion police hypersensitivity demonstrates the neurotic joy police haters have at making sure that any innocuous or positive direction is met with disdain.
11
@5, that's somewhat promising. Thanks.

I thought the SPD gang unit went to black uniforms ages ago.

As much as I hate to say anything nice about Comcast, the new speed is great. Using two different speed tests I clocked in at 85-90 Mbps download and 12-14 upload (almost doubling previous download speeds). No new modem required.
14
I'm scared as hell of the police.
15
@11, oops, scratch what I said @5, SPD now saying they love SUVs

That pastor's church sounds pretty cool. Like something Jesus would approve of.

@15. Hm. Thanks again. Crikey, 8 m.p.g.?! I'd like to see dashcam footage of their driving test loop. The brochure has it at 2-3 times that. http://spdblotter.seattle.gov/wp-content…

Also apparently a key factor in the decision: the monitor of the settlement agreement expressed concern about ease of back-seat prisoner egress. Bingo, scale tipped to SUV.

I don't understand why Stranger staff thinks it's relevant to mention what the punchee's line of work is. And what's with the 'Reverend' nonsense, anyways? Does he deserve more respect and better treatment from the SPD than the rest of us?

Please wait...
